MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER - ANTWERP (BELGIUM) - PERMANENT POSITION
Position Overview
We are currently recruiting for a talented Mechanical Design Engineer with proven 3D CAD expertise to join a skilled & diverse engineering. This role is central to the design, development, and delivery of mechanical systems and assemblies for industrial installations and equipment.
Rather than focusing on consumer product design, this position emphasizes large-scale projects where machinery, piping, and structural components must be carefully integrated into complex operating environments such as manufacturing facilities, utilities, or process plants.
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for producing accurate 3D models and 2D drawings, ensuring that all designs are practical, buildable, and compliant with industry standards.
You will contribute throughout the full project lifecycle, from initial concept and feasibility studies through to detailed engineering, installation support, and commissioning. Your work will involve site surveys, design reviews, and close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams—including electrical, civil, and process engineers—as well as contractors and suppliers.
This position requires both strong technical ability and the communication skills to coordinate across different stakeholders. You will ensure that designs not only meet functional and safety requirements but also consider cost, efficiency, and maintainability.
By combining engineering knowledge with hands-on CAD expertise, you will help deliver projects that meet client expectations while supporting operational performance and long-term reliability.
Key Responsibilities
* Create detailed 3D CAD models and 2D drawings for mechanical systems, assemblies, and layouts.
* Translate project and client requirements into practical, cost-effective engineering solutions.
* Conduct tolerance analysis, design reviews, and clash detection to prevent issues during fabrication or installation.
* Prepare technical documentation including general arrangement drawings, fabrication details, and bills of materials (BOM).
* Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and suppliers to integrate mechanical designs into larger systems.
* Carry out site visits, surveys, and feasibility assessments to validate and refine designs.
* Ensure compliance with relevant engineering codes, standards, and safety regulations.
* Provide technical support during procurement, manufacturing, installation, and commissioning phases.
* Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to optimize designs and workflows.
Qualifications & Skills
* Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
* Proficiency in 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD, or Creo.
* Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
* Ability to produce accurate drawings and documentation in line with industry standards.
* Familiarity with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
* Excellent communication skills and ability to work within multidisciplinary teams.
* Organized, proactive, and able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
