Robotics Application Engineer
to join our R&D Application Engineering Team, based in Wavre, Belgium. Your role You will work on
autonomous outdoor
robots with a focus on validation, AI and real‑world applications, ensuring our robots, embedded software and connected services are
robust, safe and ready for the field. This is a
multidisciplinary
hands‑on engineering role, mixing simulation, lab testing, field testing and data analysis — not a desk‑only validation function. You will have close
cooperation with our software development team, mechanical development team, customer service department and sales team. What you will work on: Validation & testing Validation of
embedded software for autonomous products
. Validation of
smartphone application and web portal
. Increase
validation automation
, repeatability and test coverage across software releases. Development of
Software‑in‑the‑Loop
(SiL) and
Hardware‑in‑the‑Loop
(HiL) test environments.
AI-based features Validate robot features based on
cameras and AI algorithms
(e.g. object detection, safety behaviour, classification). Analyse
large datasets
(logs, images, sensor data) to assess robustness, performance and failure modes of AI features. Contribute to defining
validation criteria and KPIs for AI‑based systems
.
Stay close to the field and to the customer Test autonomous robot behaviour in
real outdoor environments
(navigation, localisation, safety and performance). Support key
customer installations
, pilots and field tests in collaboration with dealers and partners. Participate in root‑cause analysis of complex
field issues
(hardware, software, GNSS, connectivity, AI behaviour, usage). Translate field feedback and validation results into
actionable input for R&D
.
Build tools, knowledge and documentation Develop and use tools
for monitoring, debugging and analysing robot behaviour (logs, scripts, dashboards, replay tools). Create and maintain clear, high‑quality
technical documentation
: user manuals and quick guides, technician and validation documentation, release notes and technical bulletins
Your profile Background and experience You have a
Master’s degree in Engineering
, by preference in SW and/or system engineering. Experience in
Mechatronics
(robotics, automotive, medical equipment or devices, railway, etc.) or
Agricultural engineering
is an advantage. Relevant experience
in similar position. Technical profile Broad engineering knowledge (mechanics, electronics, software, telecommunications, sensors) with an understanding of
robotic system design, integration, and validation
. Strong
data analysis skill
s using scripts, automation, Power BI and Database tools. Comfortable working with: Robot software and embedded systems Linux‑based environments Interest or experience in
AI, camera systems or data‑driven validation
is a strong plus. Interest in outdoor robotics,
GNSS‑based systems
or mobile robots is a plus Mindset & personality Solution-oriented
and
pragmatic
approach to addressing engineering challenges. Effective communicator
for providing feedback and training. Enjoys combining
simulation, lab testing and real‑world field work Having a background or interest in
