Offer Description
The Context
At the Near Sensor AI team at imec, we buildnextgenerationedgedeployed,multisensorperceptionsystems designed tooperateunder strictsize,weight, andpower and real-time compute constraints. These systems merge advanced sensing modalities, highly optimized embedded AI workloads, and custom hardware platforms to enable robust,realworldperception.
To drive this initiative, we are hiring a SeniorSensorFusion&EdgeAIEngineer. In this role, you own the end-to-end architecture of these systems,frominitialmathematical concepts through to functional demonstrators,serving as the critical bridge between our algorithmic, hardware, and platform engineering teams.
What you will do
You actively shapeimec’sresearch and engineering roadmap by tackling the following core architectural challenges:
* Architectingendtoendmultisensorfusion andondeviceAI pipelines that guarantee tight latency, power efficiency, and fail-safe robustness.
* Driving hardware–softwarecodesignto radicallyoptimizestate estimation and deep-learning inference on resource-constrained embedded edge platforms.
* Establishing rigorous benchmarking methodologies to systematically evaluate thetradeoffsbetween algorithmic accuracy, compute latency, and power consumption.
* Translating complex,highlevelsystem requirements into implementable architectural specifications, work packages, and strict acceptance criteria for multidisciplinary teams.
We are looking for a technical leader who combines profound algorithmic depth with battle-tested systems engineering.
The following requirements are non-negotiable:
* Education: A PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics (or equivalent industry experience), backed by a minimum of5-8 yearsof applied experience inperception, sensor fusion, and edge AI.
* Hardware Deployment: A proventrack recordof shipping real-time, compute-heavy systems on edge or embedded hardware, with a deep understanding of AI workload optimization and memory bandwidth constraints.
* State Estimation & Math: Deep, hands-onexpertisein advancedsensorfusionand state estimation techniques, EKF/UKF, and rigorousspatio-temporal calibration of heterogeneous sensor arrays.
* Sensormodalities: Extensive experience processing and synchronizing time-series data from Radar, LiDAR, and IMUs, alongside a strong familiarity withearlyfusionDeep Learning approaches.
* Software: programming capabilities in C/C++,Python.
* Embeddedsystems: Strong familiarity with embedded Linux, real-time operating constraints, low-level code optimization,FPGA toolchains (e.g., Xilinx/AMD, Intel/Altera).
* Technicalleadership: The ability to produce concise, rigorous technical documentation, communicate complex architectural trade-offs across domains, and drive cross-functional alignment.
