MECHANICAL ENGINEER - GEEL (BELGIUM) - PERMANENT POSITION
We're currently recruiting for a Mechanical Design Engineer who will work on machine design. In this role, you will be responsible for the design, development, and improvement of industrial machinery and mechanical systems from initial concept through to detailed design, prototyping, testing, and full production support.
You will play a key role in delivering robust, cost-effective, and manufacturable engineering solutions that meet customer requirements and industry standards.
Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will collaborate closely with electrical, controls, and manufacturing engineers to ensure seamless integration of mechanical designs into complete machine systems.
You will be involved in developing innovative solutions to complex engineering challenges, producing detailed 3D models and manufacturing drawings, and supporting the build and commissioning of prototype and production machines.
Key Responsibilities:
* Design and develop mechanical systems, assemblies, and components for machinery and equipment
* Produce detailed 2D drawings and 3D CAD models using industry-standard software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, or Creo)
* Perform engineering calculations for strength, tolerance, motion, and material selection
* Develop concepts based on customer requirements and internal specifications
* Create and maintain technical documentation, BOMs, and design records
* Collaborate with electrical, controls, and manufacturing teams to ensure design feasibility
* Support prototype build, testing, validation, and iterative improvements
* Ensure compliance with relevant safety standards and industry regulations (e.g., CE/UKCA where applicable)
* Provide technical support during manufacturing and assembly stages
* Identify opportunities for cost reduction, design optimization, and performance improvement
Required Skills & Experience
* Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
* 2–5+ years of experience in machine design or special-purpose machinery
* Strong proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred)
* Good understanding of mechanical principles, materials, and manufacturing processes
* Experience with mechanical components such as gears, bearings, actuators, pneumatics, and structural frames
* Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications
* Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
* Experience working in cross-functional engineering teams
