We are looking for a motivated and technically strong R&D Engineer to join our development team. In this role, you will work on the research, development, and implementation of advanced CFD- and optimization-based methods that power Diabatixs generative design technology. You will collaborate closely with software engineers, application engineers, and product teams to translate cutting-edge research into robust, industrial-grade solutions.ResponsibilitiesYour major responsibilities are:
1. Develop, implement, and validate advanced CFD-based methods for thermal analysis and design optimization.
2. Contribute to the development of adjoint-based optimization and gradient-driven design workflows.
3. Work with and extend CFD solvers, preferably OpenFOAM, including model development, solver customization, and performance improvements.
4. Design and implement optimization algorithms for geometry and system-level design problems.
5. Collaborate with application and product teams to translate industrial requirements into R&D priorities and technical solutions.
6. Evaluate, prototype, and integrate AI/ML techniques where relevant, particularly for geometry handling, surrogate modeling, or physics-aware acceleration.
7. Ensure robustness, accuracy, and scalability of algorithms for real-world industrial use cases.
8. Participate in code reviews, testing, documentation, and knowledge sharing within the R&D team.
9. Stay up to date with academic and industrial developments in CFD, optimization, and simulation-driven design.
Qualifications
10. Masters degree or PhD in Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
11. Strong background in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and thermal engineering.
12. Experience with numerical optimization methods; adjoint methods are a strong plus.
13. Hands-on experience with OpenFOAM development and C++ programming is highly desirable.
14. Solid understanding of numerical methods, discretization techniques, and solver architectures.
15. Experience or interest in AI/ML applied to physics-based problems (e.g. surrogate models, physics-informed ML, geometry representations) is a bonus.
16. Ability to work independently on complex technical problems in a fast-paced R&D environment.
17. Strong analytical skills and a structured, problem-solving mindset.
18. Good communication skills and ability to collaborate across disciplines.
