Linux Engineer – NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCIA)

We are seeking a skilled Linux Engineer to support one of NATO's largest and most advanced Cyber Defence capabilities. This role is part of a highly international environment supporting critical cybersecurity services across 32 NATO member countries and 100+ sites worldwide.
Role Overview
As a Linux Engineer, you will be responsible for the administration, maintenance, and secure operation of Linux-based infrastructure supporting NATO cyber defence services. You will work closely with DevOps, infrastructure, and security teams to ensure systems are secure, stable, and highly available.
What You'll Be Doing
* Administer, configure, and maintain Linux servers (primarily RHEL)
* Support installation, upgrades, and lifecycle management of Linux systems
* Develop and maintain automation scripts using Python and Ansible
* Implement and enforce security controls (firewalls, encryption, access control)
* Support virtualization environments (e.g., VMware)
* Collaborate within DevOps-oriented infrastructure teams
* Troubleshoot system, application, and infrastructure issues
* Ensure systems align with cybersecurity best practices
* Support continuous improvement and automation initiatives
Required Expertise & Qualifications
* Minimum 3 years experience in Linux server administration (RHEL preferred)
* Strong scripting skills (Python required)
* At least 1 year experience with Ansible
* Experience with VMware or similar virtualization platforms
* Solid understanding of Linux security best practices
* Experience with Linux/Unix systems in enterprise environments
* Ability to work in complex, large-scale infrastructures
* Linux/Unix-related certifications (active or previously held)
Desirable Skills
* Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) or equivalent
* Experience with Red Hat Satellite
* Exposure to DevOps methodologies and tools
* Strong understanding of system architecture layers (App, Container, Network, Infrastructure)
* Experience in large international or defence environments
* Strong motivation for continuous learning in Linux ecosystems
Location & Working Conditions
* On-site position in Mons (SHAPE), Belgium
* Standard office working hours
* Occasional out-of-hours support for maintenance activities
* Rare travel (approx. 2 times per year to Braine-l'Alleud or Brussels)
Security Requirement
Valid NATO SECRET security clearance is mandatory for this position
