Purpose of the role:
This position supports shape the organization’s European Union government affairs strategy, in alignment with global public policy priorities. The role is responsible for advancing and protecting the company’s interests before EU institutions, shaping legislative and regulatory outcomes impacting the direct selling business model and broader commercial operations. The position serves as the primary Brussels-based representative to EU policymakers and stakeholders. While closely coordinating with the Global Government Affairs, Amway Europe Leadership and Industry Affairs teams, this role focuses on EU institutional government affairs and policy advocacy. Industry association strategy and management will have coordinated engagement as appropriate. The role will support affiliates in their engagements with local direct selling associations (DSAs) and regional DSAs like Seldia. This position also supports the Government Affairs group by providing government affairs research, legislative tracking, and analysis.
Primary responsibilities:
* Support development and execution of the European Union government affairs strategy in alignment with global priorities and ESAN* leadership.
* Lead monitoring, analysis, and strategic response to EU legislative and regulatory initiatives impacting the company’s business model and the direct selling industry, such as consumer protection, unfair commercial practices, digital and platform regulation, data protection, competition law, sustainability, and labor-related topics.
* Track developments from the European institutions – European Commission, European Parliament, Council of the European Union, etc.
* Identify opportunities to shape EU policy initiatives at formative stages, including engagement with EU officials and institutional stakeholders.
* Assess potential impacts of the company’s operations and provide strategic, business-focused policy analysis and recommendations.
* Support EU-level regulatory issue management and crisis response in close coordination with R&D and Communications and other relevant cross-functional teams.
* Develop and maintain relationships with EU officials, Member State Permanent Representations, and relevant regulatory bodies.
* Represent the company in meetings, hearings, consultations, workshops, and institutional forums at EU level, partnering with other divisions as appropriate.
* Provide input into annual government affairs planning and budgeting processes and manage approved EU-level advocacy resources and external consultants where applicable.
* Support ESAN affiliates by providing EU-level intelligence and policy guidance.
* Coordinate with local market to ensure alignment between EU advocacy and national-level positioning.
* Representation in all ESAN markets is not a core responsibility of this role but may occur selectively when policy alignment is required.
* Represent the company in relevant European trade associations and coalitions related to the direct selling industry.
* Coordinate closely with Industry Relations regarding strategy and positioning in associations such as Seldia and national DSAs.
* Ensure advocacy positions in trade associations are aligned with corporate policy objectives.
* Communicate legislative developments, policy risks, and advocacy positions internally to leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
* Support preparation of policy position papers, consultation responses, and advocacy materials.
* Ensure full compliance with EU transparency, lobbying, and ethics requirements, including the EU Transparency Register.
* Support internal governance processes related to government engagement and advocacy activities.
* Uphold the highest standards of integrity and professionalism in all external engagements.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and/or Related Experience:
* Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in EU government affairs, public policy, or regulatory practice.
* Thorough understanding of EU institutions, legislative procedures, and policy-making processes.
* Experience engaging directly with EU policymakers and institutional stakeholders.
* Extensive government affairs research capabilities, experience in consumer protection, digital policy, competition, sustainability, or internal market regulation preferred.
* Strong analytical capability to translate complex EU legislation into business implications.
* Strategic thinking with ability to anticipate regulatory risks and opportunities.
* High credibility and ability to build trusted relationships with policymakers and stakeholders.
* Strong project management and organizational skills.
* Ability to work effectively in a matrixed, multicultural environment.
* Ability to business travel.
