For an innovative organisation within the biopharmaceutical sector, we are looking for an MSAT Scientist / Process Engineer with expertise in upstream cell culture processes.
You will be part of the Manufacturing Science, Analytical & Technology (MSAT) team, which acts as the scientific backbone of manufacturing. The team is responsible for commercial manufacturing support, process optimisation, lifecycle management, technology transfer, and the development of robust and cost-effective next-generation processes.
In this role, you will focus on upstream cell culture, playing a key role in the technology transfer of new products and processes to a GMP manufacturing environment. You will also contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and provide support for existing commercial manufacturing processes. While the focus is on manufacturing scale, you will closely collaborate with laboratory teams on small-scale studies.
Responsibilities
* Support technology transfer activities from development laboratories to large-scale GMP manufacturing
* Ensure process readiness, including
* Performing process fit-gap analyses
* Defining process control strategies
* Preparing batch documentation (e.g. media batch sheets)
* Designing sampling plans
* Provide on-the-floor support during process performance qualification (PPQ) and initial manufacturing runs
* Identify and lead process improvement initiatives to increase yield, robustness, and efficiency
* Perform data trending and process monitoring, translating data insights into optimisation actions
* Develop and write scientific protocols and technical reports supporting process changes
* Contribute to deviation investigations, root cause analysis, and process/product impact assessments
* Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, quality, and laboratory teams
Profile
* Master’s degree or PhD in Life Sciences (e.g. Biotechnology, Bioengineering, Biochemistry
* 3 years of experience (PhD)
* or 5 years of experience (Master’s) in MSAT, process development or similar environments
* Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture processes (lab and/or manufacturing scale)
* Knowledge of downstream processing (DSP) is a plus
* Strong understanding of GMP requirements
* Experience with data analysis and statistical tools (e.g. JMP, Matlab, Simca) is an asset
* Fluent in English
