SYSTEM ENGINEER - LEUVEN (BELGIUM) - PERMANENT POSITION
We are seeking a System Engineer to design, build, and maintain reliable, scalable, and secure IT infrastructure across on-premises and cloud environments.
This role goes beyond operational support, focusing on infrastructure engineering, system improvement, automation, and ensuring the long-term stability and performance of enterprise platforms.
You will work across Windows and Linux environments, virtualization platforms, Microsoft 365, and hybrid cloud services, collaborating closely with security, network, and application teams to deliver robust and efficient infrastructure solutions.
Key Responsibilities
* Design, implement, and maintain Windows and Linux-based infrastructure environments.
* Engineer and manage virtualized infrastructure, including provisioning, optimization, and lifecycle management of virtual machines and host platforms.
* Build and improve infrastructure services such as identity management, DNS, DHCP, and directory services.
* Support and enhance Microsoft 365 and hybrid cloud integrations, ensuring secure and efficient service delivery.
* Monitor system performance, availability, and capacity, and implement improvements to ensure reliability and scalability.
* Design and implement backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutions.
* Troubleshoot and resolve complex infrastructure issues across server, storage, virtualization, cloud, and network layers.
* Contribute to infrastructure automation, standardisation, and configuration management initiatives.
* Work closely with security teams to implement hardening, patching strategies, and vulnerability remediation.
* Participate in infrastructure design discussions, projects, migrations, and modernization initiatives.
* Maintain high-quality technical documentation, diagrams, and operational standards.
* Provide escalation support for complex infrastructure incidents and root-cause analysis.
Required Skills and Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
* 3–6+ years of experience in System Administration, Infrastructure Engineering, or Systems Engineering roles.
* Strong hands-on experience with Windows Server environments and solid Linux administration skills.
* Experience designing or managing virtualized infrastructure platforms.
* Experience with Microsoft 365 administration and hybrid identity environments.
* Solid understanding of core networking principles including DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, routing, and VPNs.
* Familiarity with cloud platforms and hybrid infrastructure architectures.
* Experience with backup, monitoring, and disaster recovery design and implementation.
* Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills across multi-layer infrastructure environments.
* Good communication skills with the ability to produce clear technical documentation.
