Permanent contract
Brussels-Hybrid
In the context of the Flemish Government, ATOS is looking for a Solution Architect who is able to understand functional and business needs and translate them into pragmatic, implementable technical solutions.
The primary focus is on custom-built applications (backend and frontend), working closely with development teams and customer stakeholders. Experience with non‑functional requirements is expected, but always with a practical, delivery-oriented mindset.
Customer / Consultancy focus
* Understand business and functional needs of clients and translate them into concrete technical solutions;
* Advise customers on solution options and support the translation of needs into realistic implementation approaches;
* Contribute to the definition and alignment of solution architectures within the broader context of the customer environment;
* Work closely with customer stakeholders, users, and project teams, building trust through clear communication and sound judgement;
* Interact with a variety of stakeholders in a public-sector context, including functional leads and project sponsors;
* Explain and defend architectural choices in a clear and pragmatic way;
* Be able to negotiate trade-offs between scope, cost, quality, and time;
* Actively support solution choices that improve business processes, innovation, or efficiency;
* Guide customers through change by explaining the impact of architectural decisions;
* Maintain a learning mindset and stay up to date with relevant technologies and patterns;
* Collaborate in multi-disciplinary teams and share knowledge with developers and fellow architects;
* Coach and support developers or junior architects where relevant;
* Be a team player with a collaborative attitude.
Technical focus
* Design and document solution architectures aligned with functional needs and project constraints;
* Support the implementation of architectures covering application, integration, and deployment aspects;
* Experience with middleware and modern architectures such as API gateways, API management, microservices, containers;
* Contribute to alignment between business, application, and technical architecture without owning enterprise-wide governance;
* Support definition of non-functional requirements (performance, availability, security, maintainability);
* Familiar with architecture methods and modelling techniques (e.g. TOGAF concepts, ArchiMate, UML) at a practical level;
* Experience working in agile and DevOps contexts (Scrum, SAFe exposure, CI/CD tooling);
* Take security aspects into account in solution design (authentication, authorization, logging, confidentiality);
* Experience with public, private, or hybrid cloud solutions; container platforms (e.g. Kubernetes) are a plus. xphnsxz
Who are you?
* An experienced hands-on solution architect or senior engineer with architectural responsibilities;
* Comfortable working close to development teams and project delivery;
* Experienced in complex application landscapes, without necessarily operating at full enterprise‑strategy level;
* Able to structure problems and propose workable solutions rather than theoretical models;
* Strong communication skills; fluent in Dutch (mandatory)
* Customer-oriented, pragmatic, and solution-driven;
* Motivated to support teams and customers in achieving concrete results.
