About the Job

We are a Brussels-based financial institution (± 300 employees) operating in a highly available, hybrid multi-cloud environment. We are looking for a freelance senior network & security engineer to reinforce our Network & Security team. This role is both hands-on and technical lead oriented (50/50). You will stabilize, maintain, and oversee a complex hybrid infrastructure while mentoring junior team members and acting as the go-to escalation point. You will report directly to the Head of Infrastructure and collaborate closely with our dedicated Risk & Security team.
Main Responsibilities
* Oversight of routing & switching infrastructure (Cisco-based environment)
* Oversight of firewalling and perimeter security (Palo Alto, Fortigate, Juniper)
* Oversight of load balancing (F5 BigIP LTM)
* Oversight of Cisco Call Manager infrastructure
* L3 escalation support for internal IT teams
* Maintain, monitor, and stabilize hybrid cloud connectivity
* Coordinate with telecom providers, partners and external vendors
* Empower and mentor junior team member
* Ensure documentation and operational best practices
* Technical environment: Hybrid multi-cloud (AWS & Azure)
* Connectivity: Megaport, Equinix
* Two Belgian data centers interconnected via Ethernet & Fibre Channel
* Cisco switches & routers
* Palo Alto, Fortigate & Juniper firewalls

Must Have
* 8+ years of experience in network engineering
* Strong expertise in enterprise routing & switching
* Hands-on experience with: Cisco Catalyst switches and routers; Palo Alto and/or Fortigate firewalls; F5 BigIP LTM
* Experience working in hybrid cloud-connected environments
* Solid troubleshooting skills (L3 level)
* Professional English (written & spoken)
* Clean certificate of good behavior
Nice to Have
* Certifications such as CCNP/CCIE, Palo Alto next-gen firewall engineer or Fortinet NSE
* Experience with IPv6
* Experience with Cisco Catalyst center
* Experience with scripting/automation languages (Python, Ansible and/or Terraform)
* Experience in financial services environments
* Experience with Linux RedHat
* Experience with traditional Microsoft products
* Experience with vulnerabilities management tools
* Operationally strong and comfortable in complex environments
