What does an R&D Engineer do at Gourmand?

As an R&D Project Engineer, you are responsible for the structured management of R&D projects from creation to industrial implementation. You actively contribute to strengthening and refining our product range by translating customer and internal needs into technically sound, high‑quality solutions. You ensure a smooth handover to production.

Your responsibilities

* Coordinate and follow up R&D projects from concept phase to implementation in production
* Translate customer and internal requests into targeted recipe improvements, optimisation of existing products, assortment expansion and development of new premium products
* Actively contribute to the continuous improvement of product quality, taste, texture and process reliability
* Work closely with sales, purchasing, quality, production and process engineering teams
* Collaborate intensively with raw material suppliers and support the selection and qualification of alternative and backup suppliers, focusing on quality and supply reliability
* Provide technical product training, both internally (production, quality, purchasing, sales…) and to customers
* Ensure accurate documentation and safeguarding of product knowledge, recipes and technical agreements

This is you:

* Degree in Industrial Engineering or Food Science Bio‑Engineering
* At least 3 years of R&D experience in the food industry, preferably in the bakery sector (but not a must)
* Structured way of working and strong sense of ownership
* Fluent communication in French and English (Dutch is a plus)
* Hands‑on mindset and comfortable in both lab and production environments
* Enjoys sharing knowledge and confidently taking on a training and coaching role
