Role Summary
The Junior Compliance Officer plays a vital, hands-on role in the Second Line of Defence, assisting the AMLCO in ensuring the bank's compliance with all relevant Financial Crime regulations (AML/CTF, Sanctions, Bribery & Corruption) and the Head of Compliance with Regulatory compliance ones (MiFID, Market Abuse…). This role is focused on the practical execution of daily control tasks, continuous monitoring, and providing operational and analytical support for regulatory reporting and strategic compliance projects.
Key Responsibilities
1. Operational Monitoring & Case Management (Daily Execution)
* Conduct pre- and post-transaction monitoring activities, including the detailed investigation and adjudication of alerts generated by the transaction monitoring system.
* Manage the operational lifecycle of client screening alerts (adverse media, sanctions, PEP) and conduct thorough due diligence analysis on clients flagged as High-Risk.
* Take full ownership of the day-to-day tasks, including the analysis and drafting of PEP and High-Risk enhanced due diligences for approval, and initiating the process for 'right to be forgotten' requests.
* Draft Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) / CTIF declarations for review and validation by the AMLCO.
* Perform market abuse STO monitoring and promptly report any suspicious trades as required.
2. First Line of Defence (1st LoD) Oversight
* Perform regular monitoring of key Financial Crime controls executed by the 1st Line of Defence to assess their effectiveness and adherence to internal policies.
* Contribute to the development of training content and documentation aimed at enhancing the awareness and control execution of the 1st Line of Defence.
3. Policy, Procedures, and Regulatory Projects
* Assist in the routine maintenance, review, and updating of internal Financial Crime and regulatory Compliance policies and procedures to reflect regulatory changes and internal process improvements.
* Contribute to key compliance projects, such as Gap Analyses on new EU/local regulatory requirements (e.g., new AML Directives) and the implementation of new tools or systems.
* Gather data and support the preparation of documentation for the annual reports submitted to the National Bank of Belgium (NBB) and other regulatory authorities.
4. External Engagements
* Assist in the timely and accurate preparation of information and documentation required for requests received from the FIU, Police Authorities, Court Authorities, and other external regulatory bodies.
* Collaborate with other departments (e.g., Legal, IT, Operations) on Compliance related issues.
Any other duties may be requested by the ALMCO and the Head of Compliance.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
* Education: Master's degree in law, Finance, Economics, or a related field is a plus but not required.
* Experience: Between 0 and 3 years of experience - Previous experience (e.g., internship, student job) in a compliance, first line, KYC, risk, or operational role within the financial sector is an asset.
* Regulatory Knowledge: Basic knowledge of the Belgian AML Law (Law of 18 September 2017) and EU AML Directives. Some knowledge in crypto is also an asset.
* Skills: Strong analytical, organisational, and high attention-to-detail skills are essential.
* Language: French or Dutch is compulsory (spoken and written) and excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
