The Department of Rehabilitation Sciences and Physiotherapy (MovAnt Research Group) at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of Antwerp, invites applications for a full-time doctoral scholarship in the field of molecular exercise physiology.
This PhD project, conducted in collaboration with the MovAnt research group, the Laboratory of Experimental Medicine and Pediatrics, and the Laboratory of Physiopharmacology, aims to elucidate the role of the endocannabinoid system in metabolic and inflammatory adaptations to exercise, particularly in the context of obesity. The research will employ murine models, various exercise paradigms, enzyme-based endocannabinoid modulators, multi-tissue molecular analyses, and functional metabolic assays.
Requirements
– A Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Biomedical Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Rehabilitation Sciences and Physiotherapy, or Movement Sciences (or expected by the start date)
– Demonstrated strong academic performance
– Background, experience, or interest in exercise physiology, metabolic and inflammatory regulation, molecular biology, and biochemistry
– Experience with molecular biology techniques (e.g., protein/mRNA extraction, western blotting, qPCR) is advantageous
– Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
– Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
– FELASA certificate (or equivalent) for animal experimentation, or willingness to obtain one
– Basic knowledge of statistical analysis
– Teaching and research competencies aligned with the University’s standards
What Is Offered
– A doctoral scholarship for one year, renewable upon positive evaluation

– Monthly scholarship stipend in accordance with university guidelines, plus ecocheques, internet connectivity allowance, and commuting benefits
– Primary work location at Campus Drie Eiken, University of Antwerp
– Planned start date: 1 October 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter
