Linux Engineer – 6 Month Contract – AntwerpFor an operationally critical environment in Antwerp, we are looking for an experienced Linux Engineer to support and maintain the Linux infrastructure that underpins automation platforms and mission-critical operational systems. This role focuses on ensuring stability, security, and high availability within an environment where infrastructure reliability is essential for continuous operations.You will play a key role in maintaining hardened Linux environments, resolving incidents, and supporting systems that enable real-time operational processes.The roleAs Linux Engineer, you will be responsible for maintaining and supporting Linux-based infrastructure used by critical operational applications, automation platforms, and integration systems. A large part of the role involves incident response, troubleshooting, and ensuring system stability in production environments.You will work closely with application engineers, automation teams, and network specialists to ensure the underlying OS layer remains secure, standardized, and reliable.The environment includes physical servers, virtual platforms, and high-availability systems that support continuous operations.Key responsibilitiesProvide 2nd-line support for Linux infrastructure environmentsDiagnose and resolve OS-level incidents in production systemsPerform live troubleshooting and restore services within SLA timelinesInstall, configure, and maintain Linux servers (RHEL, Ubuntu, Debian)Manage users, permissions, and authentication (LDAP, PAM, Sudo)Perform patching, upgrades, and lifecycle managementMonitor system performance, storage, and resource usageMaintain backup and recovery proceduresAutomate operational tasks using Bash or PythonUse configuration management tools such as AnsibleImplement system hardening and security configurationsSupport virtualization platforms (VMware, KVM)Support container environments where applicableWork in an on-call / 24-7 support rotation when requiredPerform root cause analysis after incidentsRequired skills & experienceStrong experience with Linux system administrationExperience with RHEL, Ubuntu, or Debian environmentsProven experience in production troubleshootingSolid knowledge of networking and storage configurationExperience with virtualization platforms (VMware, KVM, or similar)Experience with scripting (Bash, Python)Experience working in high-availability environmentsAbility to work under pressure in critical operational situationsFluency in DutchWe aim to respond promptly to all applications.
