Position Summary:
As a member of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT), the CoS assists the CEO in setting the long‑term vision and enterprise strategy for Goodwill Houston, ensuring alignment and coordinated execution among the CEO and executive leaders. The role partners closely with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to translate strategy into action and drive progress on both annual goals and long‑term initiatives across the enterprise.
Reporting directly to the President & CEO, the CoS is focused on management of the President’s office, including board relations and governance, Goodwill Houston’s engagement within GII Network, and ensuring the success of the long‑term growth and profitability plan of the organization. Provides strategic oversight of the Office of the President, enterprise strategic planning, and project management functions to ensure alignment with the organization’s vision. Typically focusing on projects and initiatives that span 2-10 years, evaluates and monitors competitive market trends and partnerships for all revenue operating entities to ensure successful outcomes for mission and financial strength.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
* Leads the integrated strategic planning process, aligning financials, risk, projects, people, and enterprise change initiatives with organizational strategy and accountability.
* Partners with leadership to ensure alignment, engagement at all levels, and streamlines executive reporting to focus on strategic goals and outcomes.
* Optimizes portfolio performance through continuous improvement, resource allocation, and regular reporting to the Board of Directors (BoD). Ensures decision making roles are clear and all interested parties are informed as to outcomes and course corrections.
* Community Engagement: At the CEO’s request, will represent the organization in affinity groups inside and outside of Goodwill Houston to stretch leadership visibility of the organization and provide leadership presence within the community.
* Project and Change Management: In partnership with Executive Leadership Team members, will establish enterprise project priority and timing, articulate Goodwill Houston vision for organizational changes. This can include
o Review the use of organizational time, talent, and financial resources to support projects and improvement initiatives.
o Partner with Executive Leadership Team members to manage organizational change through effective communication and training.
* Oversee communication management of Goodwill Houston’s BoD, ensuring strong governance practices are outlined to maximize CEO effectiveness. This includes preparing for engagements, capturing minutes, and tracking action items with the Executive Leadership Team.
* Partners with the CEO to shape Goodwill Houston’s industry engagement strategy within the larger Goodwill network. Monitors movement‑wide priorities and trends, provides analysis and preparation for GII, G‑11, and G‑3 meetings, and determines strategic participation in network activities.
o Leverages executive leaders for key opportunities, ensures organizational presence at priority events and collaborations, and oversees the President’s Office in managing meeting requests, assignments and outputs.
Minimum Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s Degree required.
* Minimum of 10 years’ experience in the Goodwill Industry working in Missions and/or Operations.
* Strong strategic mindset: ability to partner with high level enterprise leadership to create an enterprise vision and set short and long terms direction for the President’s Office.
* Complex organizational savvy and agility; understands and can successfully work within organizational dynamics and amongst competing interests.
* Ability to introduce new processes and concepts clearly and successfully to leadership in a rapidly growing and changing environment.
* Effective communication, collaboration, and facilitation skills, including but not limited to relationship building, negotiation, influence, and consensus building.
