High Voltage (HV) Engineer - Antwerp - 12 Months - November Start - FREELANCE
Our client, based in the Antwerp region, are looking for an experienced FREELANCE High Voltage Engineer to join a project from November onwards. The position will require occasional travel to project sites/distribution networks in Flanders/Belgium as needed.
Responsibilities:
* Lead or support the design, development and review of HV / MV electrical installations (substations, GIS, transformers, cables, auxiliary/earthing systems) from concept through detailed engineering.
* Prepare technical specifications, tender documents and vendor equipment reviews.
* Perform system studies including: load flow, short-circuit calculations, protection coordination, earthing/bonding, lightning protection.
* Ensure compliance with grid / transmission & distribution operator standards, local regulations, relevant IEC and Belgian standards.
* Interface with multidisciplinary project teams (civil, structural, mechanical, safety), and coordinate with contractors/suppliers.
* Perform or oversee testing, commissioning, and site inspections; resolve technical issues in execution.
* Support safety, quality management, and reporting (drawing up technical documentation / reports, change management).
Requirements:
* Solid experience in high voltage engineering (design, procurement & construction) especially for substations or HV/MV infrastructure.
* Proven experience with HV/MV components: GIS, power & auxiliary/earthing transformers, shunt reactors, HV & MV cables and accessories, protection & control systems.
* Experience using calculation and design tools/software: e.g. tools for HV/MV calculations (e.g. Caneco HT, Eplan, or equivalents), single-line diagrams, protection coordination studies.
* Strong knowledge of transmission/distribution grid practices in Belgium (or comparable jurisdictions).
* Fluent in English; knowledge of Dutch and/or French is a significant advantage.
