Benelux EHS Manager

Position overview

The Benelux EHS Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining the organization’s Environment, Health & Safety programmes across Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg. The primary focus of the role is split equally between Belgium (approx. 45%) and the Netherlands (approx. 45%), with Luxembourg representing a smaller part of the scope (approx. 10%). Reporting directly to the Europe EHS Director, this role serves as the regional EHS subject-matter expert for both office-based operations and a mobile service organization. The position requires a hands-on professional who combines regulatory expertise with strong field presence to drive a culture of safety excellence.

Your Responsibilities

EHS Strategy & Compliance

1. Develop and execute the regional EHS strategy in alignment with corporate and European EHS objectives
2. Ensure full compliance with Belgian, Dutch, and Luxembourg EHS legislation, including the Belgian Code of Well-being at Work (Codex over het welzijn op het werk) and the Dutch Working Conditions Act (Arbowet)
3. Monitor regulatory developments across the Benelux region and advise leadership on implications and required actions
4. Maintain and update all required EHS documentation, including risk assessments (RI&E / Risicoanalyse), annual prevention plans, and emergency procedures

Field Audits & Inspections

5. Conduct frequent field audits and safety inspections of the service organization’s activities across the Benelux region, including customer sites and mobile operations.
6. Perform workplace inspections at company offices and operational locations to identify hazards and verify compliance
7. Develop and track corrective and preventive action plans (CAPA) resulting from audits, inspections, and incident investigations
8. Oversee contractor safety management and ensure third-party compliance with organizational EHS standards

Electrical Safety – Field Service Operations

9. Serve as the subject-matter expert on electrical safety for field service operations in the Benelux region, with a focus on the safe servicing, maintenance, and repair of electromechanical equipment such as ATMs, self-service terminals, and electric vehicle chargers. Ensure compliance with relevant standards including EN 50110 (Operation of Electrical Installations) and NEN 3140 in the Netherlands, and oversee the BA4/BA5 competency framework for service personnel in Belgium
10. Develop and maintain electrical safety procedures, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) programmes, safe systems of work, and permit-to-work protocols for service technicians working on energized or potentially energized equipment at customer sites
11. Ensure that field service technicians working on or near electrical installations and customer-sited equipment hold the appropriate qualifications and authorizations (., BA4/BA5 in Belgium, NEN 3140 competency in the Netherlands)
12. Conduct or coordinate electrical safety risk assessments specific to field service activities, including hazard identification for work on customer-sited equipment with varying electrical configurations and site conditions

Incident Management & Risk Assessment

13. Lead incident and accident investigations using structured methodologies (., root cause analysis, 5-Why, bow-tie analysis)
14. Manage the reporting of occupational incidents to relevant authorities, including the Belgian Federal Agency for Occupational Risks (Fedris) and the Dutch Labour Inspectorate (Nederlandse Arbeidsinspectie)
15. Conduct and review risk assessments for office, workshop, and field service activities
16. Analyse EHS data and KPIs to identify trends and drive continuous improvement

Training & Culture

17. Design and deliver EHS training programmes for employees, including safety inductions, toolbox talks, and role-specific training
18. Champion a positive safety culture across all levels of the organisation, from field technicians to senior management
19. Coordinate with external prevention services (EDPB/externe dienst voor preventie en bescherming) and Arbodienst as required
20. Act as the primary EHS contact for internal stakeholders, employee representatives, and works councils in the Benelux region

Environmental Management

21. Oversee environmental compliance, including waste management, emissions, and handling of hazardous substances
22. Support the implementation of the organization’s sustainability objectives at the regional level
23. Ensure compliance with applicable environmental permits and reporting obligations

Qualifications

Education

24. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Safety Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline

Professional Certifications (Required)

25. Belgium (mandatory): Preventieadviseur Niveau I or Niveau II (Prevention Advisor Level I or Level II) in accordance with the Royal Decree of 17 May 2007, including completion of the multidisciplinary basic module and the relevant specialisation module. This certification is required at the time of hiring
26. Netherlands (required – may be obtained post-hire): Hogere Veiligheidskundige (HVK – Higher Safety Expert) certification, accredited by Hobéon SKO, as recognised under the Dutch Working Conditions Act (Arbowet) as a core expert (kerndeskundige) in occupational safety. Candidates who do not yet hold this certification must be willing to obtain it after hiring; the organisation will fully fund the certification programme. A Middelbare Veiligheidskundige (MVK – Intermediate Safety Expert) certification at the time of hiring will be considered an asset

Professional Certification (Preferred)

27. NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or NEBOSH International Diploma – desirable but not mandatory
28. VCA (Veiligheid, Gezondheid en Milieu Checklist Aannemers) / SCC (Safety Certificate Contractors) certification at VOL-VCA level (for supervisors/managers) is considered a plus

Experience

29. 4–6 years of progressive experience in an EHS role, preferably within a manufacturing, industrial services, or field service environment
30. Demonstrated experience conducting EHS audits, workplace inspections, and field safety assessments
31. Strong knowledge of electrical safety standards and safe working practices for field service environments (., EN 50110, NEN 3140, BA4/BA5 competency framework), including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures for servicing energised equipment at customer sites
32. Experience working with external prevention services, Arbodienst, and/or regulatory authorities in Belgium and/or the Netherlands
33. Experience supporting a mobile or distributed workforce (service engineers, field technicians) is highly preferred

Skills & Competencies

34. Thorough knowledge of Belgian and Dutch EHS legislation, including the Codex over het welzijn op het werk and the Arbowet
35. Strong expertise in electrical safety as it applies to field service operations, including the ability to assess electrical risks when servicing customer-sited equipment such as ATMs, self-service terminals, and electric vehicle chargers
36. Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels
37. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven approach to safety improvement
38. Self-motivated and able to work independently in a remote setting while maintaining high visibility in the field
39. Proficiency in EHS management systems (., ISO 14001, ISO 45001)
40. Proficient in MS Office; experience with EHS software platforms is a plus

Languages

41. Fluent in Dutch and English (written and spoken) – required
42. French and/or German – highly desirable, particularly for operations in Belgium (Wallonia/Brussels) and Luxembourg

Work Arrangements

43. This is a remote position based in Belgium
44. Frequent travel (estimated 50–70%) to company offices, customer sites, and field locations across Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg is required
45. A valid driving license (Category B) is required
46. Occasional travel to other European locations for meetings, training, or audits may be required
