About the Role
We're seeking a Java Technical Lead (Freelance) to join our client's mission-critical team in Brussels. This is a 7-month, full-time freelance engagement, where you'll architect, lead, and elevate a flagship application supporting Adult Education across the public sector. You'll be at the heart of digital transformation, driving impact that shapes the future of public services.

What You'll Be Doing
* Design and update application architecture, ensuring scalability and maintainability
* Lead technical analysis and solution design, setting the standard for best practices (SOLID, DRY, Clean Code)
* Mentor and coach developers, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement
* Develop, optimize, and refactor Java code for performance and reliability
* Organize and conduct code reviews, validate unit tests, and drive quality across the team
* Oversee application maintenance, both corrective and evolutionary
* Validate deployments and ensure seamless application behavior across environments
* Collaborate closely with functional analysts, testers, project managers, and middleware specialists
* Champion the reduction of technical debt and adherence to company standards
* Provide clear feedback to team leadership and assist in evaluating work packages
Technical Skills & Experience
* Expert-level Java / Java EE, JAX-WS, JPA2, JUnit, Mockito
* Confirmed/Expert in Angular, Spring Boot, JSF2, JBoss Application Server
* Expertise with IBM DB2 databases
* Proficient in GitLab CI/CD, Apache Maven, Nexus
* Strong command of UML and Data & Services Architecture
* Solid experience working in Agile/SCRUM environments
* Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and inspire technical teams
* Proven track record in complex, public-sector or enterprise-scale applications
Language Proficiency
* Native-level French required (all communication and documentation in French)
Other Requirements
* Freelance position — full-time commitment for 7 months
* Hybrid work mode (minimum 50% on-site in Brussels)
* Immediate availability preferred
