***Freelance Opportunity ONLY***About the RoleWe are supporting a leading engineering contractor involved in large-scale green hydrogen and Power-to-X infrastructure across Europe. They are seeking an experienced HVAC Engineer to join the project team responsible for designing, integrating, and validating climate and ventilation systems for critical hydrogen production and storage facilities. This role is crucial in ensuring the safe and energy-efficient operation of hydrogen equipment rooms, electrolyser halls, compressor buildings, and process enclosures.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign HVAC and ventilation systems for hazardous zones (ATEX) in hydrogen plantsEnsure compliance with hydrogen-specific safety standards (e.g. ventilation for H2 dispersion)Prepare heat load calculations, ducting layouts, airflow simulations, and equipment specsCollaborate with process, piping, and safety teams to align environmental control requirementsGenerate technical documentation: HVAC philosophy, datasheets, functional specs, and control logicSupport installation, commissioning, and integration with BMS / SCADA systemsLiaise with EPC contractors, suppliers, and regulatory authoritiesRequired ProfileDegree in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering5+ years’ experience in HVAC for industrial or process environmentsKnowledge of hydrogen safety standards, ATEX/IECEx zones, and ventilation design in explosive atmospheresProficiency with design tools (e.g., Revit MEP, AutoCAD, Hevacomp, or similar)Strong understanding of cooling and ventilation dynamics for machinery, compressors, and electrical roomsFluent in English (Dutch/German/French is a plus)Desirable ExperienceProjects involving electrolysis, fuel cells, or gas compressionHVAC integration into skid units or modular plant roomsFamiliarity with PID integration, controls, and emergency ventilation designExperience working in FEED and EPC project phases
