Role Overview
As a Freelance Automation Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, implementing, and optimizing automation systems for robotic and machinery applications. You’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-performance solutions tailored to client needs.
Key Responsibilities
* Design and develop automation systems for robotic and industrial machinery applications.
* Program and configure PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA systems (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Schneider).
* Integrate sensors, actuators, and control systems into existing and new machinery.
* Conduct system testing, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.
* Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and software engineers to ensure seamless integration.
* Provide technical documentation and support for commissioning and maintenance.
* Ensure compliance with safety standards and industry regulations.
Required Skills & Experience
* Proven experience in industrial automation, preferably within robotics or machinery.
* Strong knowledge of PLC programming (Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell Studio 5000, etc.).
* Familiarity with HMI/SCADA systems and industrial communication protocols (e.g., OPC UA, Modbus, Profibus).
* Experience with robotic systems (e.g., ABB, KUKA, FANUC) is a strong plus.
* Understanding of electrical schematics and control panel design.
* Ability to work independently and manage project timelines.
* Fluent in English; Dutch or French is a plus.
Desirable Skills
* Experience with Industry 4.0 technologies and IoT integration.
* Knowledge of Python, C++, or other scripting languages for automation.
* Familiarity with CAD tools and simulation software.
* Previous freelance or consultancy experience in industrial settings.
