We develop firmware for the “Lower Middleware” layers on an embedded Linux System‑on‑Chip and the Flight Controller, enabling advanced flying and maneuvering capabilities. The team works closely with Controls, Vision, Platform BSP, Camera Imaging, and Upper Middleware engineers. /p h3What You'll Do /h3 pLocation: Brussels, Belgium (hybrid schedule). /p pReports to: Robotics Firmware Engineering Manager. /p ul liBe part of a high‑performing team that designs and develops game‑changing robotics products to Protect Life. /li liArchitect, design, and develop software and algorithms for drones, rovers, and other robots. /li liDevelop in C/C++, Rust on resource‑constrained embedded systems, and prototype with Python. /li liIntegrate sensors and actuators, complex logic, and autonomous behavior. /li liDesign and develop new use‑cases on robots, translating requirements into features and tests. /li liImplement robotics use‑cases in ROS2 and custom robotics frameworks. /li liEnsure high quality throughout the product lifecycle, designing and implementing unit tests, integration tests, and CI pipelines. /li liBe hands‑on with prototyping, development, and debugging in all stages of the product lifecycle. /li liCollaborate with distributed hardware, software, firmware, control systems, manufacturing, and compliance teams. /li liBe a team player, mentor, strong communicator, and ready to support the team when needed. /li /ul h3What You Bring /h3 ul liBachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Robotics, or equivalent. /li liMinimum 7+ years of industry experience building commercial products. /li liMinimum 7+ years of experience with C/C++, Python, and/or other system programming languages such as Rust. /li liDemonstrated track record of bringing commercial devices to market and supporting post‑release product performance. /li liExperience with performant inter‑process communication and userspace Linux kernel development. /li liStrong understanding of systems architecture, operating systems, concurrency, and networking concepts. /li liStrong experience with CI/CD pipelines and QA processes. /li liSolid software engineering background (algorithms, data structures). /li liExperience with sensor peripherals (accelerometers, time‑of‑flight, magnetometers, etc.) and cameras. /li liFamiliarity with cryptographic primitives and mechanisms (AES, Root of Trust, Secure Boot). /li /ul h3Preferred /h3 ul liExperience with robotics simulation tools such as Gazebo. /li liExperience with computer vision techniques (SLAM/VIO), control systems, trajectory optimization. /li liExperience with MAVLink, PX4, or similar flight controllers. /li liExperience with ROS2 system bus and distributed messaging (ZeroMQ, Zenoh, iceoryx). /li liExperience with Yocto build system. /li liExperience with bare‑metal firmware development on MCUs. /li liExperience with Linux kernel and driver development. /li /ul pIf you do not meet every single requirement, we encourage you to apply anyway.
