Freelance Financial AP (Accounts Payable) Accounting Lead – Industrial Sector
What the Project Is About
This freelance mission supports a rapidly scaling industrial organization that has expanded from hundreds of millions in revenue to well over €1bn in a relatively short period. While commercial growth has accelerated, the finance function, specifically Accounts Payable must now evolve to match this scale.
The key objective of this role is to build a world-class, highly scalable AP function capable of handling significant transaction volumes.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
* Take full ownership of Accounts Payable operations as AP Lead
* Support and structure AP scaling in line with company growth (€1bn+)
* Professionalise and optimise the end-to-end Procure-to-Pay (P2P) process
* Design and implement high-volume, scalable AP processes fit for industrial operations
* Drive efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness across invoice processing and payments
* Create and operate an AP "cockpit" using KPIs and operational metrics
* Proactively identify, flag, and resolve process bottlenecks
* Plan capacity and workload to support continuous volume growth
* Lead process improvement initiatives with measurable, data-driven impact
* Manage and communicate effectively with internal stakeholders (procurement, operations, finance leadership)
* Act as the internal subject-matter expert for all things Accounts Payable
Requirements for the Candidate
Experience & Mindset
* Minimum 3+ years of hands-on Accounts Payable experience
* Strong AP focus with a clear desire to master and specialise in AP
* Proven track record of process improvement with quantifiable results
* Experience in high-growth, high-volume environments
* Ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced setting
* High level of professional curiosity and continuous improvement mindset
Skills & Communication
* Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
* Able to translate operational challenges into structured process solutions
* English-only working environment (fluency required)
Technology
* Hands-on experience with AP systems required
* SAP experience is a strong plus but not mandatory
