Mission:
The HEH is a museum presenting Europe's history in a way that raises awareness about the multiplicity of perspectives and interpretations. It preserves shared and dividing memories. It exhibits and collects the history of European integration and its foundations. A project of the European Parliament and of its visitor offer, the House of European History is academically independent.
The permanent exhibition of the HEH is divided in several parts supervised by historians with specific knowledge related to their topics. The HEH is currently looking for a historian/manager to supervise the following sections of the permanent exhibition:
Markets and people - Russian revolution – Stalinism - National Socialism - Second World War - The harvest of destruction
Tasks :
• Managing the abovementioned sections of the permanent exhibition. This task entails, more
precisely, the constant updating and renewing of the permanent exhibition and undertaking historial research for the area of responsibility in the permanent exhibition, researching objects, documents and audio-visual material.
• Representing the museum in front of specialised academic and museum audiences, giving
guided tours and presentations.
• Researching and enriching the HEH collection, carrying out systematic registration of data
about objects into the Museum’s database, and writing contributions for the collection online
projet.
• Drafting exhibition texts, scripts for audiovisual productions and publications both for a wide
public and according to academic standars.
• Answering queries of visitors and stakeholders.
• Preparing the brief for the relevant sections of the temporary exhibition Living Legacies.
• Writing texts for the temporary exhibition
• Picture researching and copyright clearing for materials needed for the graphics, audio-visuals, publication and online materials related to the temporary exhibition.
• Checking the translations of their exhibition and museum texts and providing content clarifications to the translators.
• Supporting and, if necessary, updating the brief of the touring exhibitions.
• Acting as point of contact between the HEH and museums that will host the travelling exhibition.
• Training the staff of the host museums concerning the contents of the touring exhibition.
• Documenting and evaluating the whole process.
Required skills/expertise :
* University degree in history and specialisation in the subjects of the above-mentioned sections of the permanent exhibition.
* At least 8 years of demonstrated experience in the cultural field, preferably in the museum sector.
* 6 to 8 years of demonstrated experience in organising exhibition projects of minimum 500 square metres, including different media and technologies.
* Excellent organisation and communication skills.
* Fluency in English and another language of the EU. A third language will be an asset.
