The role is responsible for ensuring that ground works are executed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with approved designs, specifications, and programme requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Ground Works Supervision
* Supervise all ground works activities, including excavation, foundations, drainage, and installation of underground services.
* Ensure works are delivered in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, and method statements.
Site Coordination
* Manage ground works teams and subcontractors to ensure effective coordination and alignment with the construction programme.
* Collaborate with other site disciplines to support seamless project delivery.
Quality Assurance
* Monitor workmanship and materials to ensure compliance with engineering standards, project requirements, and local regulations.
* Identify and address quality issues promptly, implementing corrective actions as required.
Health & Safety Management
* Enforce site health and safety procedures and promote a strong safety culture.
* Carry out regular site inspections and risk assessments to identify and mitigate hazards.
Progress Monitoring & Reporting
* Track daily progress against the construction programme and proactively resolve technical or logistical challenges.
* Provide regular progress updates and reports to senior project management.
Stakeholder Engagement
* Liaise with engineers, consultants, inspectors, and client representatives to ensure alignment on technical, quality, and programme matters.
Documentation & Records
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of ground works activities, inspections, and materials usage.
* Ensure all documentation complies with project and regulatory requirements.
Environmental & Sustainability Compliance
* Ensure ground works activities are carried out in accordance with environmental legislation and project sustainability objectives.
Requirements
* Proven experience supervising ground works on large commercial construction projects.
* Strong technical understanding of excavation, foundations, drainage, and underground services.
* Good knowledge of Belgian construction regulations and environmental standards.
* Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
* Fluent in English; French or Dutch is advantageous.
* Relevant qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
* Safety certifications (e.g. VCA, OSHA, or equivalent) are desirable.
