We are seeking a skilled Linux Engineer to support one of NATO's largest and most advanced Cyber Defence capabilities. This role is part of a highly international environment supporting critical cybersecurity services across 32 NATO member countries and 100+ sites worldwide.
Role OverviewAs a Linux Engineer, you will be responsible for the administration, maintenance, and secure operation of Linux-based infrastructure supporting NATO cyber defence services. You will work closely with DevOps, infrastructure, and security teams to ensure systems are secure, stable, and highly available.
What You'll Be DoingAdminister, configure, and maintain Linux servers (primarily RHEL )Support installation, upgrades, and lifecycle management of Linux systemsDevelop and maintain automation scripts using Python and AnsibleImplement and enforce security controls (firewalls, encryption, access control)Support virtualization environments (e.g., VMware)Collaborate within DevOps-oriented infrastructure teamsTroubleshoot system, application, and infrastructure issuesEnsure systems align with cybersecurity best practicesSupport continuous improvement and automation initiatives
Required Expertise & QualificationsMinimum 3 years experience in Linux server administration (RHEL preferred)Strong scripting skills ( Python required )At least 1 year experience with AnsibleExperience with VMware or similar virtualization platformsSolid understanding of Linux security best practicesExperience with Linux/Unix systems in enterprise environmentsAbility to work in complex, large-scale infrastructuresLinux/Unix-related certifications (active or previously held)
Desirable SkillsRed Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) or equivalentExperience with Red Hat SatelliteExposure to DevOps methodologies and toolsStrong understanding of system architecture layers (App, Container, Network, xphnsxz Infrastructure)Experience in large international or defence environmentsStrong motivation for continuous learning in Linux ecosystems
Location & Working ConditionsOn-site position in Mons (SHAPE), BelgiumStandard office working hoursOccasional out-of-hours support for maintenance activitiesRare travel (approx. 2 times per year to Braine-l'Alleud or Brussels)
Security RequirementValid NATO SECRET security clearance is mandatory for this position
