Decarbonization of Energy Systems
The energy landscape is undergoing significant transformations to achieve a sustainable future. Renewable energy sources such as wind and solar photovoltaics are increasingly contributing to the generation mix, while data related to various aspects of the energy system becomes available, enhancing the predictive power of modeling efforts.
This research aims to contribute to multiple projects in terms of model development, validation, and identifying or connecting to relevant data sources. The role also involves developing and managing projects, including leading work packages and tasks, writing deliverables, and organizing international workshops.
Collaboration with PhD students and participation in research projects are key aspects of this position. The ESIM research group at KU Leuven's Department of Mechanical Engineering focuses on modeling energy systems and markets, including unit commitment, system planning, equilibrium modeling, renewables integration, energy policy, and energy market design.
Key Responsibilities
* Contribute to model development, validation, and data source identification.
* Develop and manage projects, including leading work packages and tasks.
* Cultivate collaboration with PhD students and participate in research projects.
About the Research Group
The ESIM research group is part of a dynamic research collaboration focused on energy systems and markets. Key areas of focus include unit commitment, system planning, equilibrium modeling, renewables integration, energy policy, and energy market design.
The targeted start date will be agreed upon, allowing for a flexible schedule. This opportunity is performed within the framework of a research collaboration on sustainable energy.
