Lead Systems Integration Engineer – Logistics Automation
Madrid, Spain · EU remote negotiable · Full-Time · Senior Individual Contributor · Frequent EU travel
The Role
We are a growing Start-Up in European ecommerce logistics automation and need a senior engineer to own our technical deployments end to end. This is a hands-on deployment and integration leadership role — you are on-site at customer warehouses across Europe, commissioning automated sorter systems and building the integration layer that connects industrial hardware to the customer's software world.
In practice the role breaks down as roughly 40% on-site commissioning, 30% middleware and integration development, 20% troubleshooting and escalation support, and 10% supplier and customer coordination. Software development is part of the job, but the defining characteristic of this role is owning the full technical outcome of a live deployment.
You are the bridge between PLCs, sorter controllers, and DWS systems on one side, and WMS, ERP, and carrier APIs on the other. You write the code that makes them talk, resolve the issues no one else can diagnose, and build the documentation and processes that make each rollout faster than the last.
This is an early-stage company with strong commercial momentum and real growth ahead. The people who help build it will have a meaningful stake in that outcome.
What You Will Do
Deployment & Commissioning
Lead end-to-end on-site integration of automated sorter systems — narrow belt, cross-belt, DWS tunnels, singulators — from initial installation through to stable live operation and customer handover
Configure and validate PLC communications, sorter controller interfaces, and site network architecture; conduct acceptance testing against contracted SLAs for sort accuracy, throughput, and uptime.
Work directly with customer operations and IT teams on-site to resolve integration blockers, navigate network security constraints, and ensure the system performs in a real warehouse environment
Integration & Middleware Development
Design and build the integration layer between sorter hardware (OEM SDKs, industrial APIs, Modbus TCP, Profinet) and customer platforms including SAP, Oracle, and custom WMS/ERP solutions
Develop custom software features and adaptors to meet specific operational requirements across the installed customer base, and maintain that codebase across deployments using Git
Build data pipelines for real-time operational monitoring, sort accuracy reporting, and billing reconciliation; contribute to a shared integration framework that reduces customisation effort on future projects
Troubleshooting & Technical Escalation
Act as the final escalation point for complex OT/IT integration issues — including third-party hardware with incomplete documentation from suppliers
Provide structured diagnosis under operational pressure in live warehouse environments; document root causes and resolutions in a way that prevents recurrence across the installed base
Supplier & Customer Coordination
Maintain technical relationships with hardware suppliers; manage escalations and extract accurate information from support channels when documentation falls short
Produce integration documentation and deployment runbooks that reduce reliance on tribal knowledge and make the next project faster
Must-Have
5+ years of hands-on professional experience in warehouse automation, material handling, or sortation systems — conveyor systems, sorter controllers, WCS or WES environments
Proven OT/IT systems integration experience: connecting industrial hardware (PLCs, controllers, sensors) to enterprise software (WMS, ERP, or carrier systems) in a production environment
Strong proficiency in Python or C#/.NET for middleware development, integration tooling, and scripting
Experience leading customer-facing technical deployments including on-site commissioning, acceptance testing, and live go-live support
Solid working knowledge of industrial networking: TCP/IP, Modbus TCP, Profinet, and managing OT/IT boundaries
Proficiency in SQL (PostgreSQL or MySQL) for operational data logging and diagnostics, and hands-on experience with RESTful APIs, JSON, and webhooks
Genuine willingness and practical ability to travel across Europe for deployment phases of 1–2 weeks at a time
Professional English fluency is mandatory; you will work directly with customers, suppliers, and colleagues across multiple countries
Nice-to-Have
Experience integrating with SAP or Oracle WMS/ERP environments
Familiarity with WCS or WES platforms and how they sit between the sorter controller and the WMS
Experience with diagnostic tools such as Wireshark or Postman
Additional European languages — Spanish, French, German, or Dutch are all relevant to our customer footprint
What We Offer
Full technical ownership of every deployment — you design the integration approach, make the on-site decisions, and are accountable for the outcome. No committees, no bureaucracy
Competitive base salary benchmarked to senior individual contributor experience in industrial automation or logistics technology
A compensation structure that reflects your stake in what we are building — we are an early-stage company with real growth ahead, and the people who help build it should benefit from that in a meaningful way
Broad European exposure — our customers span the continent, and you will build a technical network and market perspective that is genuinely rare in this space
A small, technically strong team where decisions move fast, feedback is direct, and your work has visible impact from day one.
This is a senior individual contributor role with no people management scope. As the company grows there is a clear path toward a Principal Engineer or Solutions Architect position with broader technical authority across the deployment portfolio.
How to Apply
Send an email to juan.resusta@logynex.com with a CV and a short note — a paragraph or two — describing a specific integration challenge you have solved: the problem, your approach, and the outcome. We care more about how you think than a polished cover letter. Applications reviewed on a rolling basis.
