HARDWARE DESIGN ENGINEER - BRUSSELS (BELGIUM) - PERMANENT POSITION
The Hardware Design Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and validating electronic hardware systems for spacecraft, satellites, or space-related equipment. This role involves creating robust, reliable, and high-performance hardware solutions that meet the stringent requirements of the space environment, including radiation tolerance, thermal extremes, vibration, and shock.
The Hardware Design Engineer works closely with cross-functional teams including systems engineering, firmware/software development, mechanical engineering, and manufacturing to translate system requirements into functional, manufacturable hardware designs.
The role requires strong technical expertise in analog and digital electronics, power systems, PCB design, and embedded hardware, combined with rigorous attention to quality, safety, and compliance with aerospace standards.
The ideal candidate is innovative, detail-oriented, and able to deliver reliable hardware solutions under strict regulatory and performance constraints. They are also proactive in identifying risks, evaluating trade-offs, and supporting testing and verification throughout the hardware lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
* Design and develop electronic hardware systems for spacecraft and space equipment, including analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuits
* Create schematics, PCB layouts, and component selection with consideration for space-specific constraints such as radiation, temperature, and vibration
* Perform circuit analysis, simulation, and design validation to ensure performance, reliability, and robustness
* Collaborate with systems engineers to translate functional requirements into detailed hardware specifications
* Develop and execute hardware verification and validation plans, including environmental testing (thermal, vibration, radiation, EMI/EMC)
* Support prototype builds, integration, and troubleshooting of hardware systems
* Analyze test results and implement design improvements to meet strict space reliability and safety requirements
* Document test procedures, results, and design modifications in compliance with aerospace standards
* Ensure hardware designs comply with applicable aerospace standards, industry regulations, and safety requirements (e.g., ECSS, NASA, MIL-STD)
* Maintain detailed design documentation, including schematics, BOMs, PCB files, and change records
Qualifications & Skills
* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
* Proven experience in hardware design for aerospace or space applications (satellites, spacecraft, or high-reliability embedded systems)
* Strong knowledge of analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuit design
* Experience with PCB design and simulation tools (e.g., Altium, Cadence, Mentor Graphics, SPICE)
* Familiarity with space-rated components and design constraints (radiation, thermal, vibration)
* Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and technical communication skills
* Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and manage multiple priorities
The Offer:
* A permanent, full-time employment contract
* A salary & benefits package commensurate with experience
