Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Mechatronics/Mechanical Engineer to design and develop innovative space robotics applications in challenging projects.
* The ideal candidate will work on active space mechanisms, space actuators, and gravity-offloading systems for on-orbit servicing and planetary missions.
* They will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless design integration and address structural and thermal analysis requirements.
The position is in the Systems Department, Robotics, Mechanisms and Structures Team, where you will report to the RMS Team Lead and Project Managers.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop innovative design concepts for space components, systems, or structures, ensuring alignment with performance, manufacturability, and safety requirements.
* Design trade-offs and early validation through prototyping approaches.
* Assess and select suitable materials and processes, considering application-specific and environmental constraints.
You will provide support for manufacturing processes, including interactions with suppliers and selection of COTS components, as well as integration, testing, qualification, and acceptance activities.
Requirements and Qualifications
* Master's degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics or equivalent with a background in robotics engineering.
* At least 3 years of professional experience in an equivalent position.
* High proficiency with CAD software, proven track record of mechanisms design, and excellent knowledge of materials, tolerances, manufacturing processes, and supply chain for space products.
Additional qualifications include experience with hardware testing on test bench, good proficiency writing technical reports, and good knowledge of ECSS design standards and qualification/acceptance processes.
