ABOUT GHENT UNIVERSITY
Ghent University is a world of its own. Employing 15,000 people, it is actively involved in education and research, management and administration, and technical and social services on a daily basis. It is one of the largest, most exciting employers in the area and offers great career opportunities. With each of its 11 faculties and more than 100 departments offering state-of-the-art study programmes that are grounded in research in a wide range of academic fields, Ghent University is a logical choice for its employees as well as its students.
ABOUT THE FACULTY
The Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences has the following mission:
"We provide academic education, conduct academic research, and engage in scientific and societal service within Psychology and Educational Sciences."
It is important to note that the faculty offers a range of programs – including the MSc in Psychology, Educational Sciences, Social Work, Primary Education, Clinical Linguistics, and the Educational Master – and conducts research across a wide variety of domains in each of these fields.
The faculty's vision can be summarized as: "With trust, in connection, through continuous learning."
The FPPW is committed to further developing the faculty as a learning and future-proof organization. This means building an open, transparent, and knowledge-sharing culture that fosters collaboration and innovation. Guided by this vision, the faculty identified "a learning organization with a long-term perspective" as one of its five strategic priorities in its integrated strategic plan.
To achieve these strategic goals, we are investing both in specific academic fields and in the people who make this possible. With the appointment of six Post-doctoral assistants, we aim to temporarily strengthen six disciplines. In doing so, the faculty seeks to achieve two objectives: contributing to the further expansion and consolidation of these fields, and offering postdoctoral researchers the opportunity to gain valuable academic experience in teaching, research, and service.
These appointments are temporary (two years), as the faculty must return resources by the end of 2027 and therefore cannot continue the positions on a structural basis. While this trajectory is not intended as long-term career planning for the individual candidates, it does provide a unique opportunity to be part of the faculty's transition and to contribute to the future of the disciplines involved.
