About Unico
Unico is the world's largest identity verification network, building secure digital infrastructure that enables trusted transactions across financial institutions, enterprises, and governments. Our systems process 1.2 billion transactions annually, leveraging biometrics, machine learning, and secure distributed systems to prevent fraud and protect digital identities.
Our Values
- Do the right thing the right way.
- Drive impact, plain and simple.
- Have the courage to take the risk, own the error and evolve fast.
- Choose productive conflict over comfortable silence.
- Hire people better than you. The goal is to always raise the bar.
- Solve locally, scale globally.
About The Team
The Incubation team is where new products take shape. It's a high‑ambiguity, high‑impact environment: you won't be executing a pre‑defined roadmap — you'll help build it. The products born here touch sensitive ground, privacy, anonymity, in‑person experiences, and require engineering that thinks alongside product, security, and compliance from day one.
What You'll Do
Own the technical frontend leadership of products in incubation, from architecture to production. This means being present for the decisions that matter — not just in the code, but in the conversations with PMs, backend, security, and senior leadership, and ensuring the delivered experience is consistent, accessible, and reliable.
- Design and evolve the frontend architecture of new products, including in‑person use cases and privacy/anonymity‑focused features.
- Define and spread engineering best practices across the team: testing, observability, performance, accessibility, and feature flags.
- Lead code reviews that raise the bar, not just flagging issues, but building shared reasoning.
- Articulate technical trade‑offs clearly to different audiences: engineers, PMs, security, and senior leadership.
- Take end‑to‑end ownership of production quality, from deployment to monitoring.
What We're Looking For
Technical (non‑negotiable)
- Strong production experience with React, including state management patterns (Context + Provider with use‑context‑selector), routing (React Router DOM), and internationalization (i18next/react‑i18next).
- Deep knowledge of build and bundling: Webpack, Rollup/UMD, bundle optimization, chunk strategy, caching, and dependency sharing.
- Testing (Jest + React Testing Library) as a practice, not an afterthought.
- Production experience with CSS‑in‑JS (styled‑components or similar) and a strong eye for visual consistency in design systems.
- Active use of AI as a work tool, especially Claude Code, with genuine fluency to accelerate delivery, investigate context, write and review code, and the critical judgment to know its limits. This isn't a nice‑to‑have; it's how the team operates.
Beyond the technical
- A consistent track record delivering in high‑complexity, cross‑functional projects with multiple integrations and stakeholders.
- Autonomy to navigate ambiguity without needing everything defined before you start.
- Ability to defend a technical position with evidence and adjust when the context calls for it — no ego, no silence.
- Product sense: you understand how technical decisions affect user experience and business outcomes.
