Position: Junior Data & Privacy Counsel Are you passionate about AI, data protection, and digital trust? Do you have experience with EU GDPR, the EU AI Act and other EU data regulations? Are you interested supporting strategies for responsible data- and AI-driven technologies, collaborating with diverse professional teams, and gaining experience within an international environment? If so, you might be the perfect candidate for the Junior Data & Privacy Counsel position at the BDO Global Office. You will be part of the Legal & Privacy Department, currently consisting of 12 professionals, and will report to the Senior Data & Privacy Counsel managing all data protection, AI and data compliance matters within the team. Key accountabilities You will advise internal stakeholders on data protection, AI, and digital compliance, and assist with the BDO Global Privacy Programme to strengthen regulatory compliance across the BDO network. You will work on tasks such as: Evaluating and advising on Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and AI Assessments for new and existing projects, processes, and systems. Drafting and negotiating contracts related to data protection or the use of AI functionalities. Closely collaborating with IT, HR, Risk, Information Security and other teams to ensure that data practices are aligned with the latest requirements and industry standards. Assisting in the maintenance of the processing register, as well as with other data privacy responsibilities, such as Transfer Impact Assessments and Legitimate Interest Assessments. Supporting the development and implementation of data compliance tools and platforms. Developing and delivering privacy and AI compliance trainings and awareness campaigns, promoting a culture of data accountability and trust. Staying up-to-date and providing strategic advice on the latest developments and best practices in data protection and privacy, AI, and other applicable digital compliance regulations. Monitoring and reporting on BDO's compliance with its Binding Corporate Rules for Controllers and Processors. Qualifications Master's degree in law or equivalent Initial experience with facilitating EU GDPR compliance – preferably in a global law firm or multi-national organisation context – or otherwise have demonstrable EU GDPR knowledge. Ability and enthusiasm to engage with and evaluate new and AI-driven solutions to support their compliant and trusted adoption Desire to help solve complex problems in evolving technology and regulatory landscapes. Eagerness to learn and grow in this field. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts in a clear and concise manner, and to engage with cross-functional teams. Solution-oriented with strong analytical and pragmatic problem-solving skills. Able to work independently and in a team. Holding or willing to obtain a professional data privacy and/or AI governance certification, such as the CIPP/E, AIGP, CIPM, CIPT, or similar. Fluent in English, both written and spoken. Nice to have: Experience with conducting DPIAs, reviewing Data Processing Agreements, maintaining records of processing activities, and evaluating AI governance risks. Why BDO?
