Employing over 280 staff, Thales Belgium specializes in designing, developing, and supplying critical information systems for clients in Defense, Security (including Cyber), and Aerospace sectors.
Profile:
We would love to hear from you if:
* You hold a Master of Engineering degree, or are a Civil or Industrial Engineer.
* You have at least 10 years of successful experience in software development, with proven technical leadership in team and project management of complex developments and industrialization.
* You are proficient in engineering performance optimization processes and tools (LEAN, Agile, etc.).
* You are eager to engage and develop your team (comprising 45 to 60 people) through collaborative work and challenging approaches.
* You can empower and unite employees around clear objectives by acting as a coach, leveraging influencing and 'team first' skills.
* You have successfully led software projects to deliver on time and within budget, including deploying digital platform solutions (Kubernetes, containers) and embedded software.
* You wish to join a growing company and oversee software-related activities in a challenging and innovative environment with diverse technical projects and electronic products.
* You have experience developing with languages such as C++, C, Java, and understand tools like Jenkins, Maven, Jira, Stash, GIT.
* You understand how to develop software systems to meet cybersecurity needs of customers and stakeholders.
* You are fluent in French and/or Dutch and English.
Life as a Head of Thales Software Engineering Role
As a Head of Software Engineering at Thales Belgium, you will:
* Define, tailor, and enforce the software development process, manage resources, oversee product/project work packages and budgets, lead estimating activities for bids, and contribute to continuous improvement activities.
* Collaborate with engineering and program teams to provide realistic plans and schedules, identify priorities, and manage software risks, assumptions, and dependencies.
* Maintain and update software development plans aligned with evolving customer and business requirements concerning delivery structures, safety, and cybersecurity.
* Ensure adherence to the software development process and generate quality artifacts within budget and timeline constraints.
* Lead the estimating process for the software department and collaborate on building realistic, competitive bids.
* Report monthly on software delivery performance, managing budgets and milestones effectively.
* Ensure accurate reporting of company metrics related to software activities.
* Manage and develop software engineers through performance discussions, training, and coaching, fostering a collaborative team environment.
* Represent the company and the software function in customer meetings or audits.
* Oversee peer reviews and prepare materials for major milestone reviews.
* Share knowledge and mentor team members to support their development.
