YOUR PROFILE



The Project Development Lead, will drive and manage the development of projects (to both internal and external parties) to a point where lead sponsor participation has been secured to complete the development of the project and will typically centre on developing the business case for the Project, supported with a standardized package of engineering deliverables and outline commercial structure/agreements (site, feedstock and industrial gas supply, and product off-take). Other typical activities will include procuring terms to secure project sites and initiating permit application development with recognized 3rd Party consultants.



YOUR CONTRIBUTION



In this role you will lead a diverse range of activities and proactively manage project development risks in a coordinated manner to ensure all required aspects of each project development opportunity are completed to the level typically required to enable timely investment decisions from partners to progress project development to FEED and financial close.



YOUR ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES



- Identifying, leading and maturing compelling business & project development opportunities through Enerkem’s stage-gate process.

-Matching candidate business partners with Enerkem’s project development opportunities and engaging and maintaining ongoing contact during all stages of project development activity until the FEED study is commissioned, including presenting Enerkem technology and leading and/or framing discussions about feedstock availability, product market analysis/regulatory aspects, and basis of design.

-Leading negotiations on commercial terms, joint development agreements, site, feedstock and industrial gases supply, and offtake.

-Subject to other project development priorities, develop and deliver new Project development opportunity assessments aligned with Enerkem's strategic priorities and standard waste-to-methanol project design. For joint development projects with 3rd Parties, ensure clear mutual interest, readiness and capability prior to development of collaboration framework document/MoU and pre-feasibility study execution.

-Completing feasibility and pre-FEED studies to the required internal standards (Stage Gate approval) and typical requirements of candidate partners.

-Prepare and present to the Corporate Steering Committee the results of new project development opportunity assessments, FS and pre-FEED studies for go/no-go decision to progress projects through Enerkem’s stage-gate approval process.

-Develop and present project economics and commercial contracting options to senior leadership, potential partners/clients for decision making including an assessment of project risks and their economic impacts.

-Identify significant site-specific adjustments to the standard Enerkem plant to assess with the engineering team the impacts of such deviations with due considerations to site conditions, site access / logistics, waste characterization, geology, water, access to industrial gas supply including oxygen and, hydrogen, utility connections to natural gas, electricity, water supply and effluent treatment.

-Identify local specific needs as well as legislative and regulatory requirements (including those related to permitting), and their impact on the project value proposition.

-Define potential project funding sources grants and/or loans available.

-Coordinate cross-functional teams including technical, finance, legal and external affairs

-Engage with external partners, regulators, and stakeholders to build strategic alliances for own project development opportunity(ies)

-Act as central point of contact for internal and external stakeholders for own project development opportunity(ies)



YOUR QUALIFICATIONS



-University degree or equivalent qualification in relevant fields such as engineering, economics, or finance. Degrees in chemical, mechanical or other relevant branches of engineering are considered strong assets

-5+ years of experience developing projects in renewables, oil & gas, refining or chemicals industries.

-Exceptional project development and commercial skills

-Excellent stakeholder management and negotiation skills

-Strong commercial skills and experience in negotiating contracts.

-A high degree of competency in developing detailed financial models summarizing project economics and investment returns.

-Proven experience in project management

-Understanding of the key challenges related to the funding and financing of large-scale infrastructure projects.

-Understanding of number of ancillary topics such as relevant regulatory frameworks (permitting, support mechanisms, funding opportunities), environmental performance (Life Cycle Analysis, carbon markets)

-Availability to travel internationally to candidate project locations to facilitate development as required.

-To excel in this role, candidates will need to develop a good understanding of Enerkem’s strategic goals, technology platform and business model.

-Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills.

-Strong presentation skills and the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly.
