About the job HAYS IT is supporting one of our clients in the Antwerp region in their search for a Freelance AI Engineer & Agentic Developer. This is a long‑term assignment (12 months, extension possible) with a hybrid setup requiring a minimum of 2 days per week onsite. As an AI Engineer, you will play a key role in a strategic AI initiative within a complex, multi‑component technology landscape. You will build production‑ready, scalable, secure, and compliant AI solutions, while taking the technical lead in designing and implementing agentic AI architectures. You will collaborate with various technical and business teams and support the full lifecycle from design to production operations. Responsibilities AI Engineering & MLOps Build production‑ready AI solutions and pipelines. Apply MLOps practices (CI/CD, containers, model registry, observability). Coach Data Scientists and ensure security & compliance (incl. EU AI Act). Agentic AI Lead development of agentic AI solutions. Implement function calling, RAG, and orchestration patterns. Set up evaluation frameworks and maintain human‑in‑the‑loop controls. Collaboration & Architecture Work in an agile team and manage technical backlog. Create documentation and runbooks. Ensure solutions align with the target architecture and collaborate with stakeholders. Profile Hands‑on AI/MLOps Engineer with strong Python skills and experience delivering production‑grade AI systems. Strong engineering depth combined with innovation mindset and coaching skills. Experience with agentic development and orchestration concepts. Pragmatic, ownership‑driven, and focused on results. Strong knowledge of AIOps/MLOps tooling: Azure DevOps, CI/CD, Docker, Terraform (IaC). Experience with Azure ML, Azure OpenAI/AI Foundry, Azure AI Search. Understanding of security & governance (RBAC, secrets management, network segmentation, privacy). Master’s degree in Computer Science, AI, Engineering, or equivalent experience. 3–5 years of experience as an AI/ML/MLOps Engineer. Experience with agentic frameworks, function calling, and RAG workflows. Fluent in Dutch and English.
