Overview
Thales Belgium (Herstal site) is a world leader in precision guided rocket systems for helicopters and jet aircraft. The Engineering Delivery Manager (EDM) role focuses on technical management of engineering activities, building a goal-driven team to deliver engineering outcomes, in alignment with earned value management and project constraints.
Responsibilities
* Strong focus on engineering delivery to achieve on-time delivery and within budget
* Lead the planning, coordination, and delivery of engineering projects involving hardware, software, and system integration components
* Build and lead a team with aligned goals to create an efficient engineering chain conducting all engineering activities (R&T/R&D)
* Manage cross-functional engineering teams including systems engineers, software developers, and test engineers
* Advance project execution by developing project management skills and processes
* Identify, assess, and mitigate technical risks and issues throughout the project lifecycle
* Define and track project schedules, milestones, and deliverables aligned with contractual commitments
* Organize and facilitate collaborative work across teams, including internal resources, sub-contractors, partners, and final customers in Belgium or abroad
* Collaborate with program managers, people managers, quality assurance, and supply chain to ensure compliance with defense industry standards (e.g., ISO 9001, AQAP)
* Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize delivery processes, including Agile or V-model methodologies adapted to defense projects
* Ensure clear communication and reporting with internal stakeholders and external customers regarding progress, challenges, and technical solutions
* Operate based on Program Engineering KPI’s
* Support regulatory and certification activities related to product safety, reliability, and performance
Profile / Qualifications
* Completed Master’s degree in Engineering
* Minimum 5 years of Project Management or technical leadership experience within an engineering company (high tech) in aerospace, defense, automotive, embedded systems, or other high-reliability industries
* Strong knowledge of systems engineering, product development lifecycles, and integration/testing processes
* Experience with multidisciplinary teams on complex technical projects
* Results-oriented, cost-conscious, and proactive
* Ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders in a highly regulated environment
* Strategic thinker with strong communication and leadership skills
* Proficiency with project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Jira, Confluence)
* Familiarity with defense industry standards, quality frameworks, and certification processes
* Experience in aeronautical, space, defense, or automotive industries; knowledge of DO-178, ARP4754, or ISO26262 is a plus
* Fluent in French and English; knowledge of German or Dutch is a plus
