FUNCTIONAL ANALYST - BRUSSELS (BELGIUM) - PERMANENT POSITION
We are looking for a technically strong Functional Analyst to translate complex business requirements into precise functional and system specifications. The role focuses on detailed process modeling, functional decomposition, and data analysis to ensure robust, scalable, and well-structured solutions.
You will work closely with business stakeholders, software engineers, data teams, and QA to ensure that functional requirements are correctly implemented at both application and data levels.
The Functional Analyst will be responsible for analyzing end-to-end business processes (including activity, sequence, and use-case diagrams). You will define functional requirements, business rules, and system behaviors, ensuring traceability from business needs through to implementation.
A key part of the role involves working with database schemas, data models, and modularized system architectures. You will participate in data model design and validation, ensuring that logical and physical schemas correctly support functional requirements, data integrity, and performance considerations. You will also contribute to interface definitions, data mappings, and functional validations across system components.
This position requires strong analytical skills, technical rigor, and the ability to communicate effectively across both functional and technical teams.
Key Responsibilities
Perform detailed functional analysis and requirements engineeringModel business processes and system interactions using BPMN and/or UMLProduce detailed functional specifications, including business rules and data requirementsCollaborate with development teams to clarify functional behavior and edge casesAnalyze and validate database schemas, data models, and modular system componentsWrite and optimize SQL queries for data analysis, functional validation, and testing supportEnsure consistency between functional requirements, application logic, and data structuresSupport integration, system, and user acceptance testing (UAT) through functional expertiseParticipate in design reviews, solution walkthroughs, and impact analysesMaintain functional documentation, models, and traceability artifacts
Required Skills & Qualifications
Experience in a Functional Analyst, Business Analyst (technical), or similar roleStrong expertise in BPMN and/or UML modelingSolid proficiency in SQL (complex queries, joins, data validation)Strong understanding of relational databases, schema design, and data modeling principlesExperience with modular or layered system architecturesAbility to translate business needs into precise, testable functional specificationsStrong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skillsAbility to work effectively with cross-functional technical teams
