* SUMMARY

Within the Office of Strategic Communications (OSC), the Digital Communities and Content Section is responsible for NATO's digital communications, including through the NATO website, multimedia production, social media channels, digital campaigns and partnerships with content creators, corporate communications, and the NATO brand. Through these activities, the Section reaches a wide variety of audiences, providing clear information about NATO's policies and activities, and supporting the Alliance's political and military priorities.

The Digital Editor (Web) is a sharp digital communicator who joins the team responsible for engaging NATO's audiences through the NATO website. The incumbent is responsible for the creation and maintenance of web editorial products, including conceptualising, researching, drafting, editing and publishing web content. To enhance user experience and increase the reach of web content, the incumbent collaborates with colleagues in a variety of areas, including multimedia, social media and digital campaigns.

* QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

The incumbent must:

* have a university degree in an area related to communications, writing and editing, international relations, political science or similar;
* have a minimum of three years' professional experience in the creation, management and assessment of communications content for digital platforms, especially web;
* have experience with web content management systems, especially Adobe Experience Manager;
* demonstrate sound political judgement, the ability to synthesise complex and sensitive information and communicate it in clear language for non-expert audiences;
* demonstrate creativity and innovation, with the ability to tell compelling stories that reach new audiences;
* possess very good knowledge of international political affairs and security issues;
* possess the following minimum levels of NATO's official languages (English/French): V ("Advanced") in one; III ("Intermediate") in the other.

The following would be considered an advantage:

* experience with web design and development, including SEO/AIO/GEO best practices;
* experience using analytics tools to assess performance and apply lessons learned to future content development;
* experience developing multimedia/social media content that complements/promotes web content, such as infographics, data visualisation and audio/podcast production.
* MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES

Knowledge Management.
Make meaningful contributions to NATO's web-based communication activities, in the context of NATO's communications strategy and broader digital outreach activities. Conceive, research, draft and lead web editorial projects designed to engage NATO's target audiences and advance its communication objectives. Apply professional expertise to develop full user journeys. Communicate NATO's evolving agenda in a clear and concise manner to achieve increased public understanding of and support for NATO, and contribute to the overall transparency and accountability of the Organization.

Expertise Development.
Develop subject-matter expertise in editorial portfolio of specific topics. Continue to develop writing and editing expertise. Continue to develop website development and content management expertise.

Stakeholder Management.
Cooperate and coordinate with the full range of internal and external stakeholders, including NATO International Staff (IS), International Military Staff (IMS), delegations, missions, other NATO bodies, and external service providers. Create, maintain and enhance robust professional networks to meet challenges associated with communication about political issues. Represent NATO in different fora such as briefings, seminars, speaking engagements and conferences, when required.

Project Management.
Plan, manage, coordinate, implement and monitor multiplatform projects. When required, oversee the preparation and implementation of public procurement procedures for projects and subsequent reporting.

Perform any other related duty as assigned.

* INTERRELATIONSHIPS

Reporting Line:
The incumbent reports to the Head of Web Editorial unit.

Interactions:
The incumbent maintains close working relationships with other members of staff of the Office. The incumbent coordinates with staff members of other Divisions of the IS/ IMS, NATO Agencies and Commands, members of national delegations, as well as external service providers.

* CONTRACT

Contract to be offered to the successful applicant (if non-seconded): Definite duration contract of three years; possibility of renewal for up to three years, during which the incumbent may apply for conversion to an indefinite duration contract.
Contract clause applicable:

In accordance with the contract policy, this is a post in which turnover is desirable for political reasons in order to be able to accommodate the Organisation's need to carry out its tasks as mandated by the Nations in a changing environment, for example by maintaining the flexibility necessary to shape the Organisation's skills profile, and to ensure appropriate international diversity.

The maximum period of service foreseen in this post is 6 years. The successful applicant will be offered a 3-year definite duration contract, which may be renewed for a further period of up to 3 years. However, according to the procedure described in the contract policy the incumbent may apply for conversion to an indefinite contract during the period of renewal and no later than one year before the end of contract.

If the successful applicant is seconded from the national administration of one of NATO's member States, a 3-year definite duration contract will be offered, which may be renewed for a further period of up to 3 years subject also to the agreement of the national authority concerned. The maximum period of service in the post as a seconded staff member is six years.

Serving staff will be offered a contract in accordance with the NATO Civilian Personnel Régulations.

NOTE: Irrespective of previous qualifications and experience, candidates for twin-graded posts will be appointed at the lower grade. Advancement to the higher grade is not automatic, and will not normally take place during the first three years of service in the post.

Under specific circumstances, serving staff members may be appointed directly to the higher grade, and a period of three years might be reduced by up to twenty four months for external candidates. These circumstances are described in the IS directive on twin-graded posts.
