Mainframe system engineer

Description Division: Group Technology Services (GTS) Job Description Division: Group Technology Services (GTS) Group Technology Services plans, builds and runs the global infrastructure of Euroclear, and is additionally responsible for the IT service management to the operating entities of the various Group markets. The division operates its IT systems and IT services in such a way that, at an appropriate and benchmarked cost level, it can deliver the agreed levels of service to support the requirements of the business processes, for both normal operations and during disaster recovery. Your Role We are looking for a motivated junior Mainframe System Engineer to join our squad within the CORE Tribe. As part of a team of approximately 20 mainframe engineers, you will contribute to monitoring and automating mainframe processes and activities. You will also explore ways to modernize the mainframe environment by integrating it with emerging technologies such as AI and container platforms. At a later stage, you will participate in on-call rotations and contribute to weekend activities, including business resilience exercises such as SWAP and RDR. Your Responsibilities Provide expertise to support and troubleshoot infrastructure issues as they arise Monitor and resolve alerts or incidents on the platform Ensure systems are properly operated, maintained, and enhanced through successful implementation of changes Contribute to the development of automation capabilities using Ansible and similar tools by designing and delivering relevant use cases Maintain strong relationships with external suppliers to ensure effective support levels Monitor system usage, capacity, and performance Identify and automate repetitive manual tasks to reduce risk and improve efficiency Your Soft Skills Complexity & Problem Solving: Able to manage standard situations across multiple domains, and identify opportunities to improve existing processes Decision Making: Applies knowledge and expertise to support decisions within their domain, contributing to incremental operational improvements Strategic Mindset & Impact: Focuses on execution within the domain while driving continuous improvements to established processes and methods Stakeholder Management: Builds and maintains effective working relationships, influencing peers on technical or tactical matters and resolving conflicts with appropriate support Autonomy & Ownership: Works independently within a defined scope, organizing and coordinating activities effectively while providing regular feedback on progress Your Technical Skills Exposure to mainframe environments is an asset Knowledge of automation practices, including tools such as Ansible, is a plus Please note that this is a permanent position, and we do not offer freelance or contract arrangements for this role.
