Job Summary:
The Head of Engineering is responsible for the operational excellence and health of our Engineering Department. Reporting directly to the CTO, you will translate the strategic technology vision into effective engineering processes and drive the consistent, high-quality delivery of our software products. You are a leader of leaders, empowering our Team Managers and ensuring our engineering organization thrives in a dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities:
* Engineering Organization Health & Performance: shape and steer the department to achieve engineering excellence. Use a data-driven approach like the monitoring of key performance indicators (KPIs) related to engineering health, including team morale, productivity, and skill development to ensure a sustainable and high-performing engineering department which results in high-quality and reliable delivery of software.
* Engineering Follow-up & Reporting: oversee and report on the progress and performance of all engineering initiatives, providing transparency and insights into development and testing activities.
* Security Standards: ensure our engineering processes and deliverables adhere to our security policies and standards. Manage and ensure the regular scheduling, coordination, and review of penetration testing to maintain the security posture of our applications and services.
* Technical Customer Liaison: serve as a key technical liaison for Tier 1 customers, providing expert technical input and support for escalations, collaborating closely with our Tech Leads.
* Own Development & Quality Assurance Processes: define, implement, and continuously optimize our development and quality assurance processes, setting and monitoring KPIs to ensure efficiency, effectiveness, and consistent delivery. Work collaboratively with our Tech Leads to evolve engineering practices and standards. Represent engineering in leadership meetings and decision-making.
* People Management: you foster a healthy culture that encourages collaboration, innovation and accountability. As a leader of leaders, you ensure that your entire team is able and empowered to perform to the best of their ability and embody and spread this culture throughout all of the engineering teams.
* Create & Drive Operational Plans: develop and drive operational plans for the engineering department, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and efficient resource utilization. Work closely with leaders of other departments to ensure alignment and proper collaboration.
* Architectural Oversight & Consistency: provide oversight to ensure architectural consistency across all development efforts, aligning with the CTO's architectural vision and strategic principles.
* Priorities Oversight & Governance: govern the prioritization process across the engineering portfolio, including product developments, technical projects, customer projects, maintenance, and technical debt, ensuring alignment with business objectives and effective resource allocation.
* Hiring, Growth & Training Strategy & Frameworks: lead and grow the engineering teams through the development and implementation of comprehensive strategies and frameworks for engineering hiring, career development, training, retention and skill management. You ensure that these are carried out effectively and support where needed.
What You Bring:
* Proven track record in engineering leadership, with experience managing engineering teams and delivering results, preferably in a SaaS environment.
* Strong data-driven mindset with a keen eye for developer experience, process improvement, software delivery optimization and effective reporting.
* A solid background in engineering, preferably in one of the following technologies: AWS, Java, NodeJS, Swift, Angular and/or React (Native).
* Ability to drive collaboration across multiple teams and with key stakeholders.
* A good understanding of engineering needs in terms of skillset and growth.
