Job Description
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing advanced automation and control architectures for custom-built test and measurement systems. You combine strong analytical and process insight with a solid understanding of machine behavior, fine adjustment processes, and underlying physics.
You’ll bridge the gap between software, hardware, and automation, turning functional requirements into robust, maintainable control architectures. This role requires both conceptual and hands-on involvement, ensuring that designs translate into reliable, high-performance systems.
In this role, you will:
* Define, design, and validate software architectures for advanced automation systems
* Translate functional and process requirements into modular software concepts
* Collaborate with system, hardware, and automation engineers for seamless integration
* Provide technical leadership and guidance to multidisciplinary teams
* Support system commissioning, fine-tuning, and troubleshooting
* Drive standardization and scalability of system architectures
* Ensure designs meet technical, quality, and performance targets
Qualifications
The ideal candidate in a few words
* Master’s degree in Engineering (Automation, Mechatronics, Electronics, or equivalent) or Science, or equivalent through experience including the definition and realization of modular and scalable software architectures
* Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in automation, control, or test system development
* Proficient in python and/or C#
* Strong process insight, understanding of machine physics and fine adjustment mechanisms
* Solid experience in industrial control systems
* Strong abstraction and system-level thinking
* Experience with motion systems and control loops is an asset
* Hands-on with hardware and learning mindset
* Knowledge of LabVIEW or PLC programming (IEC 61131-3, ST) is nice to have
* Familiar with version control systems such as git or svn
* Excellent analytical and communication skills
* Fluent in Dutch and English
* Willing to travel occasionally (up to 25%)
