What does a financial administrative assistant do?


In Belgium, this role is often called financial clerk, administrative accounting clerk, or accounting assistant.

You support the accounting department and ensure that financial administration is processed accurately and on time.


Typical tasks in Belgium

* Entering purchase and sales invoices
* Processing payments via Isabel or other banking software
* Following up on outstanding customers and suppliers
* Preparing VAT-related documents for the accountant
* Processing bank transactions and cash records
* Assisting with monthly and quarterly closings
* Communicating with customers/suppliers by phone or email


Education & requirements (Belgium)


Education level

Most employers look for:

* Secondary education (TSO/BSO) in Accounting-Informatics, Office & Administration, Business Administration
* HBO5 / Associate Degree in Accounting Administration
* Bachelor’s degree in Applied Accounting (more for assistant-accountant roles)


Skills

* Strong numerical skills and accuracy
* Knowledge of Belgian VAT rules is an advantage
* Experience with software such as Exact Online, WinBooks, Yuki, Sage, Adsolut, Odoo
* Good knowledge of Dutch and English (French is a plus)
