We are seeking a highly motivated researcher to contribute to the development of a robust, rebound-aware life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology tailored to the electronics industry. This role is a unique opportunity to help shape a holistic, system-level understanding of the environmental impacts across semiconductor technologies and their broader supply chains.
Semiconductor and electronics technologies have historically advanced through performance improvements and efficiency gains in power, size, and cost. Moving forward, these innovations must also align with sustainability goals. This assignment focuses on establishing and maturing life cycle assessment approaches that integrate environmental impact analysis at every level—from process and device to system-level considerations—while accounting for regional, temporal, and rebound effects.
Key Responsibilities:
* You will be part of a research team dedicated to assessing the environmental impacts of current and next-generation semiconductor technologies.
* Your role will involve scaling these assessments to the system level and exploring alternative solutions at the process, device, and design stages.
* You will analyze how changes in technology and manufacturing processes influence the environmental footprint of the semiconductor industry, considering a broad range of environmental indicators, regional and temporal factors, and rebound effects.
* A key aspect of your work will be to develop and refine life cycle assessment (LCA) methodologies for electronic devices, supporting the industry's shift toward truly sustainable practices.
* You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams involved in process development, device integration, and system design and characterization.
* In addition, you will engage with industry partners to ensure that your assessments are practically applicable and aligned with real-world needs.

Required Skills and Qualifications
* PhD in Engineering, Environmental Sciences, or a related field.
* Strong expertise in life cycle assessment (LCA) or related analytical methodologies.
* Familiarity with materials science, chemical engineering, or integrated circuit (IC) manufacturing is an advantage.
* A collaborative mindset with the ability to work independently and deliver results reliably.
* Creative, self-driven, and proactive in identifying research opportunities and solutions.
* Strong communication skills and comfort engaging with both technical teams and external partners.
