Position Overview
Imec’s photovoltaic group, closely linked to Hasselt University, aims to accelerate the renewable energy transition. Recognized internationally for its expertise, track record, extensive industrial network, and state-of-the-art photovoltaic lab facilities, the group offers a position within the Energy System team. This team focuses on integrating photovoltaics into future energy systems and is based at the Energyville Campus in Genk, Belgium.
Team Focus
The team specializes in energy yield modeling of various photovoltaic applications and managing hybrid photovoltaic powerplants, including PV energy yield forecasting and energy storage modeling. Imec has developed a patented physics-based PV system energy yield simulation framework that surpasses commercial software in accuracy. The goal is to expand this framework to support the clean energy transition through co-optimization of systems and technologies.
Role as Team Leader
1. Act as people manager for team members
2. Define and execute team strategy
3. Foster team and business growth
4. Collaborate with other teams at imec and Hasselt University
5. Monitor international R&D groups and establish collaborations
6. Identify new business opportunities and initiate projects
7. Encourage innovative research ideas with industrial relevance
8. Participate in international conferences and working groups to increase visibility

Candidate Requirements
* PhD in Physics, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or Computer Sciences
* Experience in team leadership and management
* Understanding of Photovoltaic technologies and/or hybrid power systems
* Experience with multidisciplinary modeling, Python, and machine learning is a plus
* Ability to work in a multidisciplinary, global team
* Self-motivated, innovative, with a strong scientific/technical track record
* Pioneering spirit and drive for excellence
* Genuine interest in personal learning
* Excellent communication skills in English
