MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER - WEST FLANDERS (BELGIUM) - PERMANENT POSITION
We're currently recruiting for a Mechanical Design Engineer focused on product design to develop innovative, user-centered physical products that combine engineering precision with thoughtful design.
In this role, you will be responsible for creating products that are not only functional and reliable, but also intuitive, aesthetically refined, and suitable for scalable mass production. You will contribute across the full product development lifecycle, from early ideation and concept exploration through detailed mechanical design, CAD development, prototyping, testing, and manufacturing ramp-up.
This includes translating user needs, product requirements, and design intent into engineered solutions that balance performance, cost, manufacturability, and user experience.
This role requires a strong ability to think both technically and creatively. You will work closely with industrial designers, electrical engineers, and suppliers to ensure that products are feasible, well-integrated, and production-ready.
Key Responsibilities:
* Design consumer or industrial products from concept to production
* Develop 3D CAD models, assemblies, and detailed engineering drawings
* Collaborate with industrial designers to refine product form and usability
* Select materials and manufacturing processes (injection molding, CNC, sheet metal, etc.)
* Perform mechanical analysis for strength, durability, and performance
* Design for manufacturability (DFM), assembly (DFA), and cost optimization
* Build and test prototypes, iterating designs based on results and feedback
* Work with suppliers and manufacturers to ensure design feasibility
* Support tooling, molding, and production ramp-up activities
* Ensure compliance with applicable product safety and regulatory standards
Required Skills & Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
* Strong experience in product design and development
* Proficiency in CAD tools (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Creo, or similar)
* Knowledge of manufacturing processes, especially plastics and metals
* Understanding of mechanical design principles, tolerances, and materials
* Experience with prototyping and iterative design development
* Strong attention to detail and design quality
The Offer:
* A permanent, full-time employment contract
* A salary & benefits package commensurate with experience
