To support our continued growth and innovation, Barco is seeking a Thermal/Mechanical Development Engineer for its Cinema and IX Business unit in Kortrijk.
If you're passionate about applying your thermal and mechanical engineering expertise to high-end solid-state illumination products (laser, LED, phosphor) that set industry standards in projection technology, then this position is perfect for you.
You'll join an international team of enthusiastic developers from Belgium, China, Norway and Canada.
Key responsibilities
As a thermal and mechanical engineer for Barco projectors, you will contribute to the thermal and mechanical design and development of our projectors and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams. The aim is to develop products that meet specifications while ensuring reliable production and consistent performance under specified operating conditions and environments.
In this role, you will:
1. Design cooling systems and components such as heat sinks, cold plates, radiators and air ducts using CAD tools (Creo).
2. Use your fundamental understanding of thermodynamics (airflow, heat transfer, ...) and FloEFD to simulate your thermal designs.
3. Drive the cooling component standardization (peltiers, tubings, pumps…) and facilitate the alignment between the different thermal teams and specialists, including procurement.
4. Further develop and maintain a thermal digital twin model for projectors.
5. Contribute to funded projects related to thermal designs, including cooperation with universities and external suppliers.
6. Develop mechanical components using various techniques such as sheet metal fabrication, molding (plastics and light alloys), machining, 3D printing, and welding for optimal designs.
7. Perform and document mechanical R&D test plans, including thermal testing.
8. Finalize and release component designs and associated documentation, including 2D technical drawings.
9. Implement engineering changes for new and existing product designs.
10. Collaborate with the team to build engineering prototype projectors.
11. Identify issues or deficiencies and propose effective solutions, both during development and production phase.
12. Ensure product compliance with relevant regulations.
13. Actively contribute to weekly project meetings.
Profile
14. Master's degree in physics, mechanical or electro-mechanical engineering.
15. At least three years of experience in developing thermal and mechanical systems (or equivalent expertise).
16. Proficient in CAD software; familiarity with Creo and Windchill is highly desirable.
17. Ability to run simulations in Creo, FloEFD and interpret test data (mechanical, thermal, etc…).
18. Interest in thermal engineering is a must.
19. Experience in key manufacturing processes, including: Sheet metal fabrication Plastic injection molding Die casting Machining
20. Strong oral and written communication skills in English and/or Dutch.
