About Nexa Legal
Nexa Legal builds specialized AI assistants for Belgian lawyers to streamline legal research, document analysis, and drafting—while keeping the lawyer fully in control (“attorney-in-the-loop”).
We focus strongly on reliability (e.g., multi-model checking/LLMs-as-a-judge patterns) and on compliant handling of sensitive data (EU processing, pseudonymization).
We’re based in Antwerp.
The role
You’ll be the first, founding developer hire and help build the core product and engineering foundations. You will be working together closely with our CTO. This is a high-ownership role in a small, dynamic team: you’ll ship features, shape architecture, and establish engineering standards.
* Tech stack (today)
* Backend: .NET
* Frontend: Next.js, TailwindCSS
* Workflows: Temporal
* AI/Cloud: Google Cloud Platform (Gemini, Vertex), Azure OpenAI
* Infra: Kubernetes + Helm, Scaleway
* AI Engineering: RAG pipelines, evaluation frameworks (Evals), quality gates
How we build
We’re building an AI-driven engineering team. AI tools are primary (OpenCode, Claude Code, AI-assisted pull requests), but the developer stays in the lead: you decide, review, verify, and own the outcome.
What you’ll do
* Build and evolve core product capabilities end-to-end (API → UI → infra)
* Implement robust RAG workflows (ingestion, chunking, retrieval, grounding, citations)
* Design and run Evals (offline + online), create quality metrics, and prevent regressions
* Develop Temporal workflows for reliable long-running legal/AI processes
* Operate and improve Kubernetes/Helm deployments(CI/CD, environments, observability)
* Integrate and orchestrate multiple model providers(Gemini/Vertex + Azure OpenAI) with fallbacks
* Establish “how we work” as an engineering function: PR standards, release process, testing strategy, documentation
You’re a strong fit if you…
* Can ship production features independently and enjoy autonomy
* Have solid experience with .NET and modern TypeScript/React (Next.js)
* Understand (or are excited to learn deeply) LLM product engineering: RAG, prompting, grounding, evals
* Are comfortable owning infrastructure concerns: Kubernetes/Helm, environments, deployment pipelines
* Communicate clearly, like fast iteration, and can balance speed with correctness
Nice to have
* Temporal experience (or equivalent durable workflow systems)
* Hands-on experience with Vertex AI / Gemini and/or Azure OpenAI
* Security/compliance awareness (GDPR-style constraints, sensitive document handling)
* Experience in legal-tech, document-heavy domains, or citation/traceability workflows
What we offer
* Founding engineer impact: you’ll shape the product and the engineering culture from day one
* Work on real adoption and real constraints (privacy, reliability, traceability)
* Competitive compensation (salary + option-like upside possible, depending on profile)
* Flexible working setup (team-centered, with Antwerp as home base)
Apply
Send:
* GitHub/portfolio (or 2–3 projects you’re proud of)
* Short note on why this role (first dev hire / high autonomy) fits you
* (Optional) a brief example where you used AI tools responsibly to ship faster without losing correctness
