Senior Application Software Architect
Industry: Defense & High-Security Systems
Location: Tubize (Belgium) – 3–4 days on site
Contract role
We are supporting a major program within the defense and high-security sector and are looking for a Senior Application Software Architect to strengthen the architecture team during a critical project phase.
This is a high-impact role within a complex, mission-critical environment built on modern Java technologies and microservices architecture.
Your Role
As a Senior Software Architect, you will play a key role in translating high-level functional requirements into structured, actionable technical solutions. You will work closely with architects and development teams to ensure clarity, scalability, and performance across the system architecture. This role is strongly oriented toward technical analysis and architectural structuring rather than pure hands-on development.
Key Responsibilities
* Analyse complex functional requirements and user stories
* Translate high-level requirements into clear technical tasks
* Define and validate architectural decisions
* Support and guide development teams in a microservices environment
* Ensure scalability, security, and maintainability of solutions
* Contribute to architectural best practices within an Agile setup
Technical Environment
* Java (modern versions)
* Spring Boot
* Microservices architecture
* REST APIs
* Kubernetes
* High-security / mission-critical systems
Profile
* 8–10+ years of experience in software engineering
* Strong background in Java backend architecture
* Proven experience designing microservices-based systems
* Excellent analytical and structuring capabilities
* Comfortable working in complex, high-stakes environments
* Fluent in English
* Able to work on site in Tubize 3–4 days per week
Nice to Have
* Experience in defense, aerospace, or other high-security industries
* Familiarity with NATO standards or secure environments
* Previous security clearance
