Explanation about Umicore
Umicore is a global player in materials technology. It is a stable international group and at the same time a thoroughly Belgian company with four sites in Belgium. We develop technologies and produce materials for high-performance solar cells used in satellites, rechargeable batteries, LED applications, catalysts... Through recycling, we recover valuable metals from laptops, mobile phones, and other devices.
Department description and responsibilities
The Precious Metals Refining (PMR) department produces solutions based on base and precious metals. At our Hoboken site, we are investing heavily to meet changing processes and legislation.
Our Technology department, with its enthusiastic employees, is the driving force behind these projects. We support various production departments with technical advice and follow the full cycle of these projects—from feasibility, through design and implementation, to commissioning.
Project description
As Project Manager, you will manage the projects assigned to you from A to Z.This will be a combination of larger and smaller projects, including both new initiatives and expansions.
Primary Tasks and responsibilities
• Manage the scope, budget, timeline, and quality of projects from A to Z
• Coordinate engineering (basic and detailed), execution, and commissioning
• Responsible for project layout, determining process parameters in consultation with production and R&D colleagues, providing input for P&IDs and design
• Managing and monitoring the process-related part within their projects
• Focus on safety, ergonomics, automation, maintenance, and energy efficiency
• Collaborate with the purchasing department for components and services
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams (internal and external)
• Communicate with internal stakeholders
• Coordinate site and execution
• Organise the commissioning phase
Technical profile requirements
• Master's degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical, chemical, or metallurgical) or equivalent through experience
o Minimum degree: industrial engineer
• Minimum 10 years of experience as an end-to-end Project Manager in multi-disciplinary projects or within one of the aforementioned disciplines
• Relevant experience in the sector, preferably in chemistry/metallurgy/machine construction
• Minimum 5 years of experience as a (Project) Engineer within one of the aforementioned disciplines
• Ability to read and draw P&ID's
• Strong technical insight = absolute minimum requirement
Non-Technical profile requirements
• Positive attitude and team-oriented
• Sense of responsibility and initiative
• Hands-on mentality and safety awareness
• Strong communication skills
• Proficiency in Dutch is required
Methodology/Certification requirements
• VCA VOL
• Certification as project manager is a strong added value
Language proficiencies
• Dutch: fluent
• Other languages are a plus
